223 Grunts Defeated: Team Go Rocket Takeover

During the Season of Shared Skies Team GO Rocket takeover event. I was able to defeat 223 Team GO Rocket members, which are the Grunts, the Leaders, and Giovanni. If you recall, the takeover event started on Thursday, August 8, at 12:00 a.m. and ended on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. local time. That’s a full 5-day event in which I defeated 223 GO Rocket members.

The Team GO Rocket event featured some Shadow Pokémon such as Shadow Timburr, Shadow Tirtouga, Shadow Archen, Shadow Lugia, and Shadow Cresselia. Shadow Timburr, Shadow Tirtouga, and Shadow Archen were the new Shadow Pokémon available after defeating Team GO Rocket Grunts. Shadow Cresselia was available after defeating Giovanni while Shadow Lugia was available in Shadow raids during the weekend.

It was an opportunity for me to see how many Team GO Rocket members I could battle and defeat during the event. The first thing I did before the event started was to take a screenshot of the Hero Medal which shows the number of the Team GO Rocket members defeated. This is so I could compare it with a screenshot of the same medal after the event concludes. This I did. (see image below).

I did the grunt battles sparingly over 5 days. However, there were times during the event days when I did a lot in a few hours. One of such was when I did 64 grunt battles in 3 hours. This was possible because I specifically went to a downtown park that has a ‘dense’ population of Poké Stops.

What Did I get?

To measure what I did get from the 223 Grunt, I used the Pokémon’s Individual Values IVs to classify what is good and what is bad. Of course, IVs do not matter when it comes to Shadow Pokémon. However, why consider a lower IV Shadow Pokémon a win when you can get the same Shadow Pokémon with high IVs?

Based on that, only 13 out of the 223 are high IV Shadow Pokémon. They are as follows

  • 82% IV (15-9-13) Shadow Anorith from Arlo.
  • 84% IV (15-11-12) Shadow Machop from a Fighting-type Grunt.
  • 88% IV (13-14-12) Shadow Wooper from a Ground-type Grunt.
  • 82% IV (13-13-11) Shadow Wooper from a Ground-type Grunt.
  • 82% IV (12-12-13) Shadow Dratini from a Dragon-type Grunt.
  • 84% IV (14-11-13) Shadow Lileep from a Cliff.
  • 96% IV (14-14-15) Shadow Houndour from a Dark-type Grunt.
  • 91% IV (14-13-14) Shadow Cyndaquil from a Fire-type Grunt.
  • 82% IV (10-15-12) Shadow Dusknoir from a Ghost-type Grunt.
  • 84% IV (14-10-14) Shadow Lileep from a Cliff.
  • 88% IV (14-10-15) Shadow Teddiursa from a Normal-type Grunt.
  • 91% IV (15-14-12) Shadow Timburr from a Fighting-type Grunt.
  • 82% IV (15-8-14) Shiny Shadow Omanyte from a Water-type Grunt.

These are all 3-stars shadow Pokémon

Other low IV Shadow Pokémon that are worthy of keeping.

In addition to the 13 high IV Shadow Pokémon, there were others I had to keep. They are as follows

  • 76% IV (15-15-4) Shiny Shadow Scyther from a Bug-type Grunt.
  • 49% IV (0-10-13) Shadow Scyther from a Bug-type Grunt which is ranked #11 for Ultra League.
  • 76% IV (13-13-8) Shadow Darumaka from a Fire-type Grunt.
  • 51% IV (4-8-11) Shiny Shadow Carvanha from a Sierra.
  • 42% IV (10-1-8) Shiny Shadow Carvanha from a Sierra.
  • 68% IV (7-10-14) Shadow Darumaka from an Ice-type Grunt.

Most importantly, I was able to battle and defeat Giovanni to save Shadow Cresselia. I got an 80% IV (12-14-10) Shadow Cresselia. If you are wondering what team of Pokémon I used to defeat Giovanni, I used a Level 50 Metagross with Steel-type attacks, a Level 50 Mega Lucario with Fighting-type attacks and Level 50 Yveltal with Dark-type attacks.
