How to Do 8+ Gigantamax Battles without Buying Max Particles

Gigantamax Battles happen in Pokémon GO once in a while. You need Max Particles (MPs) to participate in these Max Battles. Without effective planning, buying MPs, and buying the Max Battles event ticket, you will be able to do just a few Max Battles in a day.

Doing a few (e.g., 3) Max Battles in a day is fine as you don’t need a lot of the featured Pokémon. However, if you consider the XP and Stardust benefits you get from completing these Max Battles, you will want to do more than 3. To put that into perspective, completing a Gigantamax Battle in Pokémon GO grants 25,000 XP and 25,000 Stardust. Doing more than 3 will get you more than 75,000 XP and 75,000 Stardust respectively.

If you use a Lucky Egg, that will get you 50,000 XP per battle. If you also use a Star Piece, that will get you 37,500 Stardust per battle. So, if you end up doing 8 Gigantamax Battles while using Lucky Egg and Starpiece throughout, you will have an additional 400,000 XP and 300,000 Stardust respectively.

What Do You Need to Do More than 8 Gigantamax Battles per day?

You need a few important things you need to put into place and pace yourself while doing so. I’ll start with the most basic and proceed to what might be a little advanced.

Find a location with more than 4 Power Spots.

You should do this a day before the Gigantamax Battle Day. You need at least 4 Power Spots to do 8 Max Battles. During the event, Power Spots will refresh every 20-30 minutes. This means you will be able to do only 2 battles per hour. If you have more Power Spots, then you can do like 3 battles per hour. However, ensure that the Power Spots are easily reachable by walking.

Join other Pokémon GO Trainers

Finding a location will not be useful if no one else is going to do the max battles with you. Therefore, the location you finally choose should be the one with a Max Battle Event hosted by a Community Ambassador. Most trainers will be going to this. This is because you need a maximum of 40 trainers to defeat a Gigantamax Pokémon in a Power Spot. Likewise, you get a bonus MP if you attend and check into the event. You can find these events either via the Mobile-based Campfire App or via the Web-based Campfire Map.

Prepare your Max Battle Party.

Use the ‘Party’ feature on the in-game Battle section to create a battle party for the Max Battle. You will need to do this for each different featured Gigantamax Pokémon. If you don’t know which Pokémon to add to your battle party, you can find tips about these on this blog. Examples are Gigantamax Lapras, Gigantamax Kingler, and Gigantamax Snorlax.

Buy the Max Battle Event Ticket

For US$4.99 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access event-exclusive Timed Research. What’s important about this is, you will get 2x XP from completing Max Battles. If you complete eight (8) Max Battles, that’s 400,000 XP without using a Lucky Egg OR 800,000 XP using a Lucky Egg. In addition, you get a 5,600 MPs collection limit instead of 1,600 without the ticket. In addition, if you opt to just buy the MPs for the eight max battles, you will be spending at least US$9.99 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency). You will be spending more and not getting the event ticket bonuses.

Plan your Max Particles (MPs) Usage

To do this effectively, you will need to start planning two days before the event. Gigantamax Battles are usually during the weekend (i.e. on Saturday). So, this plan should start on Thursday before the Max Battle event.

The table below shows the plan clearly.

Doing 9 Gigantamax Battles per day

As you may have noticed, managing your MPs requires diligence. It is possible to accomplish but it will take extra carefulness and focus during the Max Battle day. To make this work efficiently, you can share this plan with your friends so that you can have more people doing 8+ Gigantamax Battles per day.

As stated earlier, you don’t need more than 3 of each featured Gigantamax Pokémon. However, if you want to grind XP and Stardust while shiny hunting, you absolutely should use the MP planning tips to do 8+ Max Battles. The MP planning tips have been tried and tested. They work. You can make it work for you as well.
