Kleavor is the latest Pokémon to make its debut in Pokémon GO. This pocket monster got into Pokémon GO during the raid day on Saturday, May 6 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time. Trainers were able to raid the Pokémon which was featured in the Tier 3 (or 3-star) raid. I was able to raid this Pokémon 15 times and did 8 trades.
Although, Kleavor is an evolution of Scyther. It was only available via raids. Hopefully, in the future, trainers would be able to evolve Scyther into Kleavor in Pokémon GO. If you missed out on the raid day, this is the other option to get Kleavor.
For those who were able to get Kleavor during the raid day, you may be wondering how good is Kleavor in Pokémon GO. I could tell you straight away that is a good collector’s item. It is also good to have it registered in the PokéDex. However, that is not what you are here for. You want to know how good it is in battles, either against other players (PVP) or in raids and grunt battles (PVE). Let’s see.
How Good is Kleavor in PVP?
To start with, since Kleavor was only available via raids, the minimum level is level 20, which means its CP is higher than 1500 CP. Therefore, we will need to look at its viability in Ultra League and Master League.
Kleavor is a Bug- and Rock-type Pokémon which makes it weak to Water, Rock, and Steel. In addition, its Attack, Defense, and Stamina (HP) stats are ordinary. This makes Kleavor less bulky and a lesser hard hitter. The point here is, Kleavor is not that good in PVP.
Taking a look further into its moveset, in terms of Fast Moves, the best one for Kleavor is the Normal-type move “Quick Attack”. This fast move deals neutral damage which makes it ineffective against all other Pokémon. In terms of Charged Moves, the best one is either the Rock-type move “Rock Slide” or “Stone Edge”. These moves deal effective damage to Fire-, Flying- and Normal-type Pokémon.
In the Ultra League, Kleavor is viable against Dark-type Pokémon like Mandibuzz (also a Flying-type) and Obstagoon (also a Normal-type). It is also a decent counter to Flying-type Pokémon like Charizard (also a Fire-type) and Pidgeot (also a Normal-type). However, Kleavor is not the best option since there are other Pokémon that perform better again Mandibuzz, Obstagoon, Charizard, and Pidgeot.
Please note: if you want to use Kleavor in the Ultra League, you will need one with 0 Attack, 14 Defense, and 15 HP IVs. This is the Rank 1 Kleavor for Ultra League and it maxes at 2497 CP for Ultra League. You can try and get this via trades.
In the Master League, Kleavor is not a viable option against all the meta-relevant Pokémon in the Master League. It can be a counter against Reshiram (a Fire-type Pokémon) and some Flying-type Pokemon like Yveltal. However, its max CP is 3557 (a perfect stats Kleavor) which is lower compared to Reshiram’s or Yveltal’s max CP of 4565 and 4275 respectively.
How Good is Kleavor in PVE?
Now that you know its best Fast Move and Charged Moves, Kleavor is bad in raids or in grunt battles. This is because it does not have a Bug- or Rock-type fast move. Do not bother using it in raids or grunt battles.
Having said all of these, I am currently trying to best buddy two 98IVs Kleavor – one normal, one lucky shiny. A collector’s item.
