How to Defeat Dynamax Sableye in Pokémon GO

Dynamax Sableye, the Darkness Pokémon will be making its debut in Pokémon GO during a Max Battle Monday. The Dynamax Monday battle is scheduled for Monday, May 19, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time. Here is how to defeat Dynamax Sableye, and get yourself a Shiny Dynamax Sableye, if lucky.

Please note that Dynamax Battles start at 6:00 a.m. local time. Therefore, it is possible to start seeing Dynamax Sableye in Power Stops from 6:00 a.m. local time on Monday, May 19, 2025. This event is part of the May 2025 Pokémon GO events.

Defeating Dynamax Sableye

The first thing you need to know is that Dynamax Battles are not as difficult as Gigantamax Battles. However, coordinating and getting your battle strategy right for Dynamax Battles may be difficult. Also, you need a maximum of 4 Pokémon GO Trainers to defeat a Dynamax Pokémon. This is not like that of a Gigantamax battle where you need a maximum of 40 Pokémon GO Trainers.

Getting four (4) Trainers (including yourself) for a Dynamax Battle makes it difficult in terms of organizing and strategizing. In addition, many Trainers do not currently have proper Dynamax and Gigantamax counters for Dynamax Sableye. This will make it tricky to defeat. Do not worry because what you find here will help a great deal.

Sableye weakness

Sableye is a Dark and Ghost-type Pokémon. It is weak (1.6x) to Pokémon with Fairy-type attacks/moves. The bad news is we do not currently have either a good Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon with Fairy-type attacks/moves. Although the good news is we currently have a Dynamax Pokémon that can learn Fairy-type attacks. Likewise, we have Gigantamax Pokémon with non-fairy type moves that can deal super effective damage to Dynamax Sableye. With these, defeating Dynamax Sableye should be easier.

Recommended Dynamax Sableye Counters

There are a few options you can use to make a battle party for defeating Dynamax Sableye. These are grouped into teams of three (3) Pokémon.

Please note that Dynamax Sableye takes reduced damage from Pokémon with Fighting-, Poison-, Normal- and Psychic-type moves/attacks. Avoid using Pokémon with these moves unless they are Gigantamax Pokémon. Also, be careful when using Dynamax Moltres or Gigantamax Charizard. Both are Fire- and Flying-type. Dynamax Sableye has access to either Feint Attack or Foul – Dark-type attack/move that deals effective damage to Fire-type Pokémon. Likewise, Dynamax Sableye has access to Power Gem, a Rock-type attack/move that deals effective damage to Flying-type Pokémon.

Whichever team you go for, make sure you create a Pattle party with them before going into the Max Battle. Also, you will want to level up their max moves before you start a battle. The recommended minimum level for the Max Attack, Max Guard, and Max Spirit moves is level 2.

Tips to defeating Dynamax Sableye

You will need to master team position, dodging, charging, and swapping.

  • Team Position: Put your tanker/healer Pokémon in the first and second spot.
  • Attack Dodging: Pay attention to when Dynamax Sableye is “preparing to attack” and start dodging. It can be hard to dodge all the attacks but you ONLY need to dodge each attack once. Also note, you cannot dodge the “preparing for large attack”
  • Attack Charging: Rather than charging your Pokémon’s Charge Move/Attack, focus on charging the Max Meter instead. You can do this by tapping on the charging button on your screen. This helps to charge up the max moves faster.
  • Pokémon Swapping
    • Swap to your last Pokémon i.e. the attacker with the right Max Attack that can do effective damage to Dynamax Sableye. You should do this when the Max Meter is about to get full or before your Pokémon dynamaxes or gigantamaxes.
    • Swap to your other tanker/healer Pokémon (the one with fuller health) after you’re done with the max moves.
    • Repeat the two (2) steps above until you defeat Dynamax Sableye.

In addition to the above, you will want to know and do the following

  • Level up your Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon (i.e. its CP) at least level 40.
  • Use at least one Max Mushroom. Each lasts for 15 minutes.
  • You will need 400 Max Particles to participate in a Dynamax Sableye Max Battle.
  • Look out for Community Ambassador-hosted Campfire events for the Max Battle Monday. Join one of these events to meet with other Trainers for the Max Battles. If not, you can plan with your Pokémon playing friends.
  • The CP for a hundo or perfect Dynamax Sableye is 843 CP (i.e. perfect CP at level 20 from raids).

All my best wishes!
