How to Defeat Dynamax Suicune in Pokémon GO

Dynamax Suicune will be featured during the May 2025 Max Battle Weekend in Pokémon GO. This is the first time Trainers will be experiencing the Dynamax Aurora legendary Pokémon in Pokémon GO. Here is how to defeat Dynamax Suicune as you get ready to participate in the Dynamax Suicune Max Battle Weekend.

As we near the conclusion of the Might and Mastery Season, Dynamax Suicune will be making its debut in Pokémon GO during the Max Battle Weekend. This is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, at 6:00 a.m. to Sunday, May 11, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. local time.

Defeating Dynamax Suicune in Pokémon GO

The first thing you need to know is that Dynamax Battles are not as difficult as Gigantamax Battles. However, you need a maximum of 4 Pokémon GO Trainers to defeat a Dynamax Pokémon. You will need a maximum of 40 Pokémon GO Trainers to defeat a Gigantamax Pokémon.

Getting four (4) Trainers (including yourself) for a Dynamax Battle makes it difficult in terms of organizing and strategizing. In addition, many Trainers do not currently have proper Dynamax and Gigantamax counters for Dynamax Suicune. This is because of so many reasons. One of which is that these trainers do not find Dynamax or Gigantamax battles important. Or the main reason is, they do not have people to battle with. These will make Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon impossible to defeat. However, if you are into max battles and you’ve got people to battle with, the following details will help a great deal.

Suicune weakness

Suicune is a Legendary Water-type Pokémon. It is weak (1.6x) against Pokémon with Electric- or Grass-type attacks/moves. Thankfully, we have good Pokémon with either Electric- or Grass-type attacks/moves in their Dynamax or Gigantamax form. With these, defeating Dynamax Suicune should be easier.

Recommended Dynamax Suicune Counters

There are a few options you can use to make a battle party for defeating Dynamax Suicune. These are grouped into teams of three (3) Pokémon. Also, take note of their max CP levels. If you can’t reach these levels with your Pokémon, try and get to at least 2000 CP for each.

Please note that Dynamax Suicune takes reduced damage from Pokémon with Fire-, Ice-, Steel-, Ice- and Water-type moves/attacks. Avoid using Pokémon with these moves.

Whichever team you go for, make sure you create a Pattle party with them before going into the Max Battle. Also, you will want to level up their max moves before you start a battle. The recommended minimum level for the Max Attack, Max Guard, and Max Spirit moves is level 2.

Tips to defeating Dynamax Suicune

You will need to master team position, dodging, charging, and swapping.

  • Team Position: Put your tanker/healer Pokémon in the first and second spot e.g. Gigantamax Snorlax or Dynamax Blissey.
  • Attack Dodging: Pay attention to when Dynamax Suicune is “preparing to attack” and start dodging. It can be hard to dodge all the attacks but you ONLY need to dodge each attack once. Also note, you cannot dodge the “preparing for large attack”
  • Attack Charging: Rather than charging your Pokémon’s Charge Move/Attack, focus on charging the Max Meter instead. You can do this by tapping on the charging button on your screen. This helps to charge up the max moves faster.
  • Pokémon Swapping:
    • Swap to your last Pokémon i.e. the attacker with the right Max Attack that can do effective damage to Dynamax Suicune. This is Gigantamax Venusaur. You should do this when the Max Meter is about to get full or before your Pokémon dynamaxes or gigantamaxes.
    • Swap to your other tanker/healer Pokémon (the one with fuller health) after you’re done with the max moves.
    • Repeat the two (2) steps above until Dynamax Suicune faints.

Additionally, You can also swap either to your tanker/healer or attacker during the transformation phase either to heal your Pokémon or to keep attacking Dynamax Suicune.

In addition to the above, you will want to know and do the following

  • Level up your Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon (i.e. its CP) at least level 40.
  • Use at least one Max Mushroom. Each lasts for 15 minutes.
  • You will need 800 Max Particles to participate in a Dynamax Suicune Max Battle.
  • Look out for Community Ambassador-hosted Campfire events for the Max Battle Weekend. Join one of these events to meet with other Trainers for the Max Battles. If not, you can plan with your Pokémon playing friends.
  • The CP for a hundo or perfect Dynamax Suicune is 1704 CP (i.e. perfect CP at level 20 from raids).
