Level 80 in 70 Days: Pokémon GO
I reached Pokémon GO’s Level 80 in 70 Days! The new level update was globally released on October 15, 2025. With the update, the previous Trainer level cap of level 50 was increased to level 80. Not only that, Pokémon GO Trainers experienced a level rebalance. Likewise, level-up tasks were moved from some Trainer levels to others.

If you missed it, you should read and catch up on the following. Doing this will help you better understand some of what I’ll be mentioning.

- Pokémon GO’s Level 70 to Level 80 Research Tasks and Rewards
Introduction: Level 80 in 70 Days
When the update was released, I had more than the XP required to reach level 80. I also had more than the Platinum Medals required for each level-up task, from level 70 to level 80. All I needed to do was to complete each remaining level-up task. The story of how I reached level 80 in 70 days features mostly the level-up tasks.
Timeline summary
Before October 15, 2025, I was at level 50 with over a billion XP and 60 Platinum Medals
On October 15, 2025, I was upgraded to level 70 due to the Trainer level rebalance that came with the new level update.
On December 25, 2025, I reached level 80 in Pokémon GO!
Now, let me explain… but remember, I have more than the XP and Platinum Medals required. So, we focus on the other level-up tasks. I’ll explain each level-up with a table
Level 70 to 71
| Level-up task | What I did to complete the level-up task |
|---|---|
| Power up Legendary or Mythical Pokémon 20 times | I powered up 20 different legendary Pokémon one time |
| Make 999 Nice Throws | I used Kyurem (White)’s Adventure effect for some hours to easily make more nice throws in a day |
| Catch 100 Pokémon in a single day | Went to a Mall for Wednesday’s Raid Hour to catch the 100 Pokémon |
It took me three days (October 15 – 17, 2025) to reach level 71. During which I caught 1,163 Pokémon, visited 367 PokéStops, explored 25 km, and gained a total of 1,971,012 XP.

|---|---|
| Complete a Route 7 days in a row | Went to the Mall for the 7-streak of completing Routes |
| Use 200 Super effective Charged Attacks | I did PVP Battles using the GO Battle League. I also did a few PVE (Raids and Gyms) Battles |
| Earn 1,000,000 Stardust | Using Star Piece when claiming rewards from PVP and Raid Battles helped. I also fed berries to Pokémon in Gyms held by Instinct Trainers |
It took me seven days (October 17 – 24, 2025) to reach level 72. I was able to catch 1,883 Pokémon, visit 759 PokéStops, explore 70 km, and gain a total of 2,631,586 XP.
Level 72 to 73
| Level-up task | What I did to complete the level-up task |
|---|---|
| Purify 100 Shadow Pokémon | I had a few Shadow Pokémon that cost less Stardust to Purify. I also had to purify some Shadow Pokémon that became a hundo after purification. In addition, I got more Shadow Pokémon by defeating Grunts and their leaders. |
| Power up 3 Pokémon to their max CP | I maxed out 2 perfect costumed Pikachu and 1 legendary Pokémon |
| Win 30 Raids | I won 10 remote raids. The majority of the remaining raids were done in-person with Premium Battle Passes. |
It took me one day (October 24 – 25, 2025) to reach level 73. During which I caught 528 Pokémon, visited 213 PokéStops, explored 22 km, and gained a total of 2,242,319 XP.
Level 73 to 74
| Level-up task | What I did to complete the level-up task |
|---|---|
| Level up a Max Move 20 times | I had a few Gigantamax Pokémon saved. I used the free Daily Max Particles to level up their max attack move. I also levelled up a few Crowned Forme Zacian and Zamazenta. The Crowned Formes do not need Max Particles to level up their max moves. |
| Explore 200 km | I explored an average of 25 km per day. This was unusual, but I had to do it. The next level-up task below also helped with exploring. |
| Complete 250 Field Research tasks | I visited three different locations (i.e., one mall and two Recreational Parks) to complete this task. This task took me the longest to complete. |
It took me eight days (October 25 – November 3, 2025) to reach level 74. I was able to catch 3,245 Pokémon, visit 977 PokéStops, explore 202 km, and gain a total of 5,692,887 XP.
Level 74 to 75
| Level-up task | What I did to complete the level-up task |
|---|---|
| Make 999 Great Throws | I used Kyurem (White)’s Adventure effect for some hours to easily make more great throws in a day |
| Hatch 75 Eggs | I had to buy the box of incubators from Pokémon GO’s webstore. I was incubating a minimum of 9 Eggs at once. |
| Send 500 Gifts to friends | This task took me the longest to complete. This is because of the limit on the number of gifts we can send per day, even though I manage my Pokémon GO Friend list efficiently |
However, it took me four days (November 3 – 7, 2025) to reach level 75. During which I caught 1,472 Pokémon, visited 490 PokéStops, explored 56 km, and gained a total of 2,480,527 XP.
Level 75 to 76
| Level-up task | What I did to complete the level-up task |
|---|---|
| Defeat 100 Team GO Rocket Grunts | This was a bit difficult because there was no Team GO Rocket Takeover event during this time. |
| Explore 300 km | This was unusual, but I had to do it. The previous level-up task above also helped with exploring. I walked from one PokéStop to the other to locate and defeat Grunts |
| Catch 200 Pokémon in a single day | I caught a lot of Pokémon while hunting Team GO Rocket Grunts. |
It took me seven days (November 7 – 14, 2025) to reach level 76. I was able to catch 2,297 Pokémon, visit 1,403 PokéStops, explore 303 km, and gain a total of 8,048,051 XP.

| Level-up task | What I did to complete the level-up task |
|---|---|
| Win 100 Max Battles | I was fortunate to have both the Into the Wild event and the 2025 Global Wild Area event during this time. Both helped in finishing the task quickly |
| Power up 7 Pokémon to their max CP | I maxed out a few legendary Pokémon and a few other Pokémon that I have as Best Buddy |
| Make 10 trades with Pokémon caught at least 300 km apart | I met up with another Pokémon Trainer who recently came from somewhere far from me. We did 10 non-special trades. |
It took me two days (November 15 – 17, 2025) to reach level 77. During which I caught 2,024 Pokémon, visited 620 PokéStops, explored 87 km, and gained a total of 10,384,870 XP. Both main events really contributed to these huge results.
Level 77 to 78
| Level-up task | What I did to complete the level-up task |
|---|---|
| Earn 400 hearts with your buddy | This was somewhat easy. I rotated 20 Buddy Pokémon per day. I earned a max of 6 hearts per Pokémon. That is about a max of 120 hearts per day |
| Explore 400 km | This was extremely unusual, but I had to do it. Adventure Sync helped a great deal. |
| Complete 500 Field Research tasks | I must confess, I don’t like doing Field Research tasks unless I’m hunting a hundo Pokémon from Field Research tasks encounters. Obviously, this task took me the longest, even beyond the 400 km exploration. This is why I had a total of 431 km explored. |
It took me thirteen days (November 17 – 30, 2025) to reach level 78. I was able to catch 3,952 Pokémon, visit 1,568 PokéStops, explore 431 km, and gain a total of 6,290,689 XP.
Level 78 to 79

|---|---|
| Defeat a Team GO Rocket Leader 30 times | I bought about 20 Rocket Radars. The Rocket Radars helped to finish this task quickly |
| Obtain 50 Lucky Pokémon in trades | This task was not the easiest, but it was quick. I made sure I did 100 trades during the Trade Days. Luckily, I was able to complete more guaranteed lucky trades |
| Hatch 100 Eggs | I had to buy the box of incubators from Pokémon GO’s webstore. I was incubating a minimum of 9 Eggs at once. |
It took me eight days (November 30 – December 8, 2025) to reach level 79. During which I caught 1,053 Pokémon, visited 93 PokéStops, explored 93 km, and gained a total of 6,557,538 XP.
Level 79 to 80
| Level-up task | What I did to complete the level-up task |
|---|---|
| Win 80 Trainer Battles in the GO Battle League | I was lucky to have the GO Battle Week happening during this time. I completed 100 battles three days out of the five-day battle week. Got the 80 wins I needed |
| Make 999 Excellent Throws | This task took me the longest. I used Kyurem (White)’s Adventure effect during two different Spotlight hours to easily make more excellent throws in a day |
| Win 80 Raids | I won about 10 raids per day to complete this task. |
It took me seventeen days (December 8 – 25, 2025) to reach level 80 from level 79. I was able to catch 4,474 Pokémon, visit 1,405 PokéStops, explore 172 km, and gain a total of 12,893,306 XP. The excellent throws really helped accumulate about 758,429.76 XP per day.
