The Mega Lucario raid day event is happening globally on Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. Mega Lucario will be making its Pokémon GO debut in Mega Raids. Also, there is an increased odds to get Shiny Lucario from raids. The odds will be 1/10 instead of the usual 1/20 for raids.
Event Bonuses
All trainers taking part in the Mega Lucario Raid Day event will get the following bonuses.
- Five additional free Raid Passes from spinning Gym Photo Discs.
- Increased chance to encounter Shiny Lucario.
- 1.5x more XP from Raid Battles.
- Increased chance to get Rare Candy XL from in-person Raid Battles.
- Remote Raid Pass will be increased to 20. This bonus is from Friday, July 26, at 5:00 p.m. to Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. PDT.
Additional Bonuses
Trainers who purchase (or get gifted of) the Raid Day ticket (for US$5.00 or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency) will have access to the following additional bonuses.
- Thirteen additional free Raid Passes from spinning Gym Photo Discs.
- Increased chance to get Rare Candy XL from Raid Battles.
- One guaranteed Rare Candy XL when catching Lucario. This is for Trainers level 31 and above. Trainers level 30 and below will receive Rare Candy instead.
- 3x more XP from Raid Battles.
- 2x Stardust from Raid Battles. (This becomes 5x Stardust with the ongoing Strength of Steel Event).
Featured Attack
Lucario encountered in raids will know Force Palm as a Fast Attack move. Force Palm deals 13 damage in Trainer Battles and 9 damage in Gym and Raid Battles.
Raid Rotation
Each Raid hatch will last for 1 hour. This means there will be a maximum of 6 Mega Lucario Raids per Gym (hosting the Mega Raid). If you have one Gym in your area, this means you can do a maximum of 6 Mega Lucario Raids.
If you have the Raid Day ticket and you are planning on getting as many Rare Candy or Rare Candy XL per catch. You will want to do as many raids as possible. This means you need to get yourself to a location (a park downtown) where you have a high concentration of Gyms you can reach with less walking.
Mega Energy Needed
Mega Lucario needs a minimum of 200 Mega Energy to Mega Evolve a Lucario. However, if you are willing to take a Mega Lucario to a max level (Mega Level 3), then you will need at least 2,000 Mega Lucario Energy. If you want to take two (a perfect IV Lucario and a shiny Lucario) to max Mega Level, then you will need a minimum of 4,000 Mega Lucario Energy.
Please note, 2,000 Mega Evergy is calculated based on the fact that you might want to be mega-evolving your Lucario every day rather than waiting for the rest period to reset (where you would not need Mega Energy to mega-evolve Lucario). You will need less than 2,000 Mega Energy if you wait for the rest periods to reset.
100% IV Lucario
Defeating Mega Lucario will reward trainers with items and Lucario. A perfect (100% IV) Lucario from raids is 1544 CP in non-weather-boosted conditions and 1930 CP in weather-boosted conditions. Lucario is boosted in Snowy and Cloudy weather conditions.
You need a 100% IV Lucario (or something within the 93% to 100% IV range) since Mega Lucario is going to be, as a Raid Attacker, the number 1 Fighting-type Pokemon and number 3 Steel-type Pokemon.
Defeating Mega Lucario
Mega Lucario is a Fighting- and Steel-type Pokémon. Defeating Mega Lucario requires a minimum of 2 Trainers with level 40 counters. However, Mega Lucario can be defeated by one Trainer if the Trainer has fully powered up (i.e. level 50) and perfect (100% IV) Fire-, Fighting- and Ground-type moves counter Pokémon. Mega Lucario is weak to Fire-, Fighting- and Ground-type moves Pokémon.
Mega Lucario Raid Counters
The perfect 6-Pokémon-team counters for Mega Lucario are as follows
- 100% IV and Level 40 (or 50) Primal Groudon with Fire- and Ground-type moves. These are Mud Shot as a Fast Attack plus Fire Punch or Fire Blast, and Precipice Blades as Charged Attack.
- 100% IV and Level 40 or (50) (Shadow) Charizard with Fire-type moves. These are either Fire Spin or Ember as a Fast Attack and Blast Burn as a Charged Attack.
- 100% IV and Level 40 or (50) (Shadow) Blaziken with Fighting- and Fire-type moves. These are Counter as a Fast Attack and Blast Burn as a Charged Attack.
- 100% IV and Level 40 or (50) (Shadow) Garchomp with Ground-type moves. These are Mud Shot as a Fast Attack and Earth Power as a Charged Attack.
- 100% IV and Level 40 or (50) Reshiram with Fire-type moves. These are Fire Fang as a Fast Attack and Fusion Flare as a Charged Attack.
- 100% IV and Level 40 or (50) Shadow Apex Ho-oh with Fire- and Ground-type moves. These are Incinerate as a Fast Attack, then Sacred Fire++, and Earthquake as a Charged Attack.
If you don’t have the above-mentioned 6 Pokémon, you can use either Mega Charizard Y (with Fire-type Fast and Charged Attacks), or Mega Garchomp (with Ground-type Fast and Charged Attacks), or Mega Blaziken (with Fighting-type Fast Attack and Fire-type Charged Attack) in place of Primal Groudon. To complete your 6 Pokemon team, you can add normal Ho-oh with Fire-type Attacks, and Terrakion with Fighting-type Attacks.
What Mega to Evolve?
To gain move candy and XP, the best Mega Level 3 Pokémon to evolve for this event is Mega Blaziken. Blaziken is a Fire- and Fighting-type Pokémon. It shares a similar type with Lucario i.e. Fighting. It also has a type that is the best counter against Mega Lucario (i.e. Fire and Fighting). You get double usefulness for Mega-evolving Mega Blaziken.
All my best wishes for your Mega Lucario Raid Day!
Good luck to you!
