One billion Pokémon GO XP in 3350 Days is no joke, but I just did it! It has been a while since I have been aiming for this. I think it’s time to retire playing the game ‘excessively’. Ever since I came back to the game during the COVID-19 pandemic, I have been playing every global event. I play the game every day!
One Billion Pokémon GO XP Timeframe

I started playing Pokémon GO on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. I accumulated a total XP of 1,000,000,105 on Saturday, September 13, 2025. That’s a total of 3,350 Days! Consequently, this amounts to 9 years, 2 months, and 1 day (including the end date). Alternatively, 3,350 Days is as follows.
- 110 months
- 478 weeks and 4 days
- 80,400 hours
- 4,824,000 minutes
- 289,440,000 seconds
These are huge time (and money) spent to achieve this!
You can watch the final moments of achieving this feat on YouTube.
Although looking back, I did not play the game for the entire 3,350 days. Remember, I stated earlier that I came back to the game. I played the game for some months after July 13, 2016. I stopped playing for several months and then came back in the early months of 2020. So, I can conclude that I did not play the game for like 2 years. Therefore, statistically, I achieved One Billion Pokémon GO XP in 7 years.
Despite this difference, I am glad I did. Henceforth, I will be playing the game casually.
Why Play Casually?
I can remember vividly when I came back. I gave myself two big-picture goals. The first one is to catch ONE Shiny and Perfect (called Shundo) Mewtwo from Raids. The other is to achieve ONE Billion XP. Now that I have achieved one of the goals, I think playing casually is the right thing to do. However, I will be playing excessively whenever Mewtwo comes back into Raids. I may quit the game once I achieve my second goal.
How Did I Earn the ONE Billion XP?
If you have been playing Pokémon GO for a while, you know almost everything you do in-game contributes to your XP gains. XP is the short form for Experience Points. Every ‘experience’ in-game counts.
Looking at my total activities, those that contribute directly to XP gains, I realized that I used them effectively. They are as follows.
- Pokémon Caught: 639,058
- PokéStops Visited: 409,382
- New PokéStops Visited: 11,557
- Pokémon Evolved: 22,612
- Eggs Hatched: 16,561
- Non-legendary Raids Won: 3,230
- Legendary Raids Won: 7,240
- Best Friends Made: 739
- Mega Evolutions Done: 3,101
- Special Research Completed: 506
All of these got me the huge XP. There are strategies to make the most XP out of all these activities. I will write about them in the future. However, what you need to know now is that I spent a lot of money buying Lucky Eggs to 2x the XP I got from doing these. Likewise, I made great use of events that have event-themed bonuses as follows.
- 2x (or 3x or 4x) Catch XP per Pokémon
- Increased XP in seven-day Pokémon catch streak
- Multiple XP for the first PokéStop spin of the day
- 2x XP for spinning new PokéStops
- 2x Evolution XP per Pokémon
- 2x Hatch XP per Pokémon
- 2x XP for completing Raids
- Additional XP bonuses for completing Raids
- 1.5x XP from increasing Friendship levels
- Extra XP for using Max-level Mega Pokémon when catching Pokémon
- Research with XP rewards.
If you are grinding XP, this is a template you should follow. If you are not, you can still follow this template, but not excessively.
