Pokémon GO Level 80 is here! This is your chance to level up like never before! Starting on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Pokémon GO’s leveling system is getting its biggest update yet. The current level cap (i.e., Level 50) will be raised to a new level cap (i.e., Level 80).
However, due to the new level cap, Trainers will start experiencing a smoother and more rewarding journey from Level 1 to Level 50. In simple terms, what this means is that all the Level Special Research tasks will be removed. Trainers will be able to reach level 50 just like it was when leveling up to level 40.
What does all this entail?
The following are summaries of what will take effect from October 15, 2025
- Leveling milestones (i.e., reaching a new Trainer level) will get new rewards, cosmetics, and more.
- Some Trainers will jump in level based on their total earned XP. This is because the leveling curve will be rebalanced. However, no Trainer will go down in level. These Trainers will also recieve all the rewards associated with all the levels they jumped.
- All Pokémon GO players will embark on a new and more rewarding leveling journey.
- Tasks for Level-Up Research for levels 41 to 50 will be removed.
- New Level-Up Research tasks will be added to levels 71 to 80.
- Trainers at level 70 and higher have an increased chance of becoming Lucky Friends with other players.
- New rewards will be added to level-up progression, like increased storage capacity for Pokémon, items, and Gifts. This includes new avatar items starting at level 25!
Pokémon GO Level 80 XP Celebration Event
To help Trainers prepare, the XP Celebration event is live now through Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. local time. The XP celebration event rewards Trainers with major XP bonuses and Timed Research worth over 7 million XP.
The XP Celebration event rewards the following.
- 2x Catch XP from Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws
- +3,000 XP from winning raids and Max Battles
- Timed Research that can earn you over 7 million XP.
- Level 47 Level-Up Research task will be adjusted. Instead of requiring you to explore 25 km in a week eight times, you’ll only need to do so twice.
Legacy Level 50
By Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. local time, all players will receive a special medal commemorating their highest achieved level (1 to 50). Also, Trainers who have reached level 50 can show off their Level 50 Jacket and an all-new avatar pose highlighting this achievement.
The bad news is…
After October 15, the Level 50 Jacket and a new avatar pose will no longer be available. This means Trainers who reach level 50 after October 15 will not receive the Jacket and the new level 50 avatar pose. Likewise, the avatar items earned by reaching levels 40 through 50 before the update won’t be available for leveling up after October 15, 2025. Trainers will no longer be able to earn the Level 50 Jacket. Although you’ll keep any items, poses, or other level-up rewards you’ve already earned, including the Level 50 Jacket.
