2024 Review: Pokémon GO Stardust

Pokémon GO Stardust is an intangible asset Pokémon GO players accumulate for most of the actions taken in-game. Stardust is a consumable resource Pokémon GO players use to increase the levels of their Pokémon or trade Pokémon with other players.

Stardust is considered one of the most valuable resources in the game. This valuable resource can be earned through various actions such as catching Pokémon, feeding Pokémon in Gyms, hatching eggs, completing Research tasks, opening Gifts, and so on.

How Much Pokémon Go Stardust Did I Accumulate?

At the time of writing this post (Friday, December 27, 2024, at 10:50 a.m. EST), I have accumulated a total of 10,494,670 Stardust throughout the year 2024. This is because I started the year with 29,828,802 Stardust and currently have 40,323,472 Stardust. That is however small in comparison to what I would have gained if I did not power-up or trade by Pokémon. I would probably have at least 5x of this amount.

To put 10,494,670 Stardust in perspective, that is the amount of Stardust needed to:

  • level up at least 40 Pokémon to level 40 and have extra Stardust. This is me using 250,000 Pokémon GO Stardust as an average amount.
  • trade 104,946 Pokémon. This is me considering 100 Stardust as an average amount needed to trade a Pokémon.

This is huge!

My Monthly Stardust

To further anaylze how huge the 10,494,670 Stardust is, I am going to divide them into months. I kept a record of these so that I could write about them at the end of the year. You will find these in the table below.

Analysis

Let’s talk about the four (4) large upticks.

I went from -2.7 million Stardust used to +426 thousand Stardust earned, between January 2024 and February 2024. Focusing on Stardust gains, I was able to earn an increase of about 3.2 million Stardust. The uptick was because of the Global Sinnoh Tour that took place between Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. local time and Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. local time.

The second large uptick was between February 2024 and March 2024. I went from +426 thousand Stardust to +3.3 million Stardust earned. I was able to gain an increase of about 2.9 million Stardust. Although the major event ended in February 2024, I mainly focused on accumulating Stardust without spending it on leveling up Pokémon except for a few lucky trades.

This was between August 2024 and September 2024. I went from -1.5 million Stardust to +2.4 million Stardust earned. I had an increase of about 4 million Stardust gained. Although the major event (i.e., Global GO Fest which took place between Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. local time and Sunday, July 14, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. local time) had already ended, I was still able to accumulate that huge amount of Stardust.

The last large uptick was between October 2024 and November 2024. This was due to the Global Wild Area event that took place between Saturday, November 23, 10:00 a.m. local time, and Sunday, November 24, 2024 p.m. local time.

Conclusion

We can rightly conclude that major events indirectly lead to more Stardust. However, that depends on whether you took part in the major events and used lots of Starpiece (or used Dialga’s Roar of Time which pauses time in Pokémon GO).

Furthermore, all upticks were made possible due to events like 2x Catch Stardust spotlight hours, 3x Catch Stardust Community Days, additional Catch Stardust Raid Days, additional Catch Stardust events, additional Stardust from opening Gifts, etc.

All these are great. Although, I did spend a lot of Stardust. I was able to reach my goal of 40 million Stardust by the end of 2024. I am currently 494,670 Stardust above my goal.

I hope you find this useful.
