Precious Pals Taken Over: Shadow Incarnate Forme Thundurus

The Precious Pals Taken Over event continues in part with the Precious Pals event. The Precious Pals Taken Over event will begin a few days later. That is Friday, January 23, 2026, at 12:00 a.m. local time. It will continue until Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

Shadow Incarnate Forme Thundurus

At the start of the event, Trainers can battle Giovanni to get an encounter with Shadow Incarnate Forme Thundurus. This is the first time Shadow Incarnate Forme Thundurus will be appearing in Pokémon GO.

To make this possible, a Special Research will be unlocked at the beginning of this event. Trainers can progress through it to receive a Super Rocket Radar that can be used to find and battle Giovanni! The Special research will be available to claim until March 3, 2026, at 9:59 a.m. local time.

Shadow Incarnate Forme Thundurus Counters

You will need the following Pokémon in your battle team to be able to defeat Giovanni.

  • Mega Lucario with Force Palm as Fast Attack and Aura Sphere as a Charged Attack
  • Kyogre with Waterfall as a Fast Attack and Origin Pulse as a Charged Attack
  • Groudon with Mud Shot as a Fast Attack and Precipice Blades as a Charged Attack

If you encounter a Shadow Incarnate Forme Thundurus with 754 CP or 1242 CP after defeating Giovanni, that’s a hundo. A hundo Shadow Incarnate Forme Thundurus from Giovanni has 754 CP during non-boosted weather conditions and 1242 CP during boosted weather conditions in the Pokémon GO game.

Precious Pals Taken Over: New Shadow Pokémon

In addition to Shadow Incarnate Forme Thundurus making its debut in Pokémon GO. The following Pokémon will be making their debut in Pokémon GO. They can be obtained after defeating some Team GO Rocket Grunts.

  • Shadow Chespin and its Evolutions
  • Shadow Fennekin and its Evolutions
  • Shadow Froakie and its Evolutions

Shadow Chespin will be available from Grass-type Grunts, Shadow Fennekin from Fire-type Grunts, and Shadow Froakie from Water-type Grunts.

Event Bonuses

The following event-themed bonuses will be available.

  • Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons.
  • You can use a Charged TM to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration.
  • Pokémon caught via one-star and three-star Shadow Raids during the event will have a wider variance of Attack, Defense, and HP.

Field Research Task Rewards

Event-themed Field Research tasks will be available. Completing the Field Research tasks will lead to rewards such as Fast TMs, Charged TMs, and Mysterious Components. The reward you get depends on the Field Research you complete.

Collection Challenge

An event-themed Collection Challenge will be available! Complete the Collection Challenge to receive XP, Stardust, and one Rocket Radar.
