The Slumbering Sands event in Pokémon GO starts on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 10: a.m. local time and ends on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time. The event promises to be an adventurous time in Pokémon GO featuring some event-themed Pokémon. You can also encounter some of these Pokémon 5 times per day when you take a snapshot of your buddy. Also, for the first time in Pokémon GO, trainers will be able to encounter Shiny Komala if lucky.

Field Research Task encounters
The following Field Research Tasks reward an encounter with a Pokémon as stated below
- Catch 10 Pokémon: Drowzee, Oranguru, or Sandygast.
- Use 5 Berries to help catch Pokémon: Psyduck or Mareep.
- Make 3 Great Throws: Komala.
- Spin 10 PokéStops or Gyms: Visor Slakoth or Komala.
- Take snapshots of 3 different wild Pokémon: Visor Slakoth.
Paid Timed Research
A paid timed research is available for purchase for US$1.99 (or the equivalent pricing in your local currency). This research will reward trainers who bought it with a Komala Backpack avatar item, encounters with Komala, and Visor Slakoth, Stardust, XP, Silver Pinap Berries, and more. This paid research lasts through the Slumbering Sands event.

Collection Challenge
An event-themed Collection Challenge will be available. It rewards Stardust, XP, and an encounter with Komala.

Shiny rates
For the Pokémon that can be shiny, they have a 1 in 500 chance to be shiny. However, Slakoth and Komala have a 1 in 64 chance to be shiny.
Wild Spawns to go after
- Slowpoke. The fully evolved form, Slowbro or Slowking, has a mega-evolution that can be used to gain extra candy and XP when it is evolved and you catch any Psychic- or Water-type Pokémon. Slowpoke is also one of the top Pokémon in some GO Battle League cups.
- Drowzee’s full evolution. Hypno is one of the best Great League Pokémon, Hypno has some plays in limited-time cups.
- Slakoth‘s mid-evolved form, Vigoroth, is one of the best Pokémon in the Great League.
Farming XP?
Make sure you use a few Lucky eggs when grinding for XP during this event because of the 2x XP catch bonus. Also, focus on hitting excellent throws on Drowzee (an easy excellent throw Pokémon).
