What 34 Mega Rayquaza Raids Got Me

I completed 34 Mega Rayqyaza raids during the special makeup event. We had the makeup event on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and at 6:00 p.m. local time. This was because of the inconvenience experienced during the initial appearance on Mega Rayquaza in June 2024.

Niantic and the Pokémon Company made the makeup raid day as a means to compensate for the technical issues that occurred during the June 2024 event. The June 2024 event featured Mega Rayquaza in Elite Raids. However, the makeup raid day was not in the form of Elite Raids but like a normal Raid Day event.

The makeup raid day featured not just the event bonus of remote raiding and the Remote Raid Pass limit increase to 20, but also a Free Timed Research that rewards a Meteorite amongst other things.

What Did I Get from 34 Mega Rayquaza Raids?

Due to the event bonus of remote raiding Mega Rayquaza and not the in-person Elite Raids, I was able to do 32 Remote Raids and 2 in-person Raids (with Daily Raid Pass) between Friday, August 2, at 5:00 p.m. to Saturday, August 3, 2024, to 8:00 p.m. PDT.

Items Received as Raid Rewards

The table below shows the number of items I received as rewards for each Mega Rayquaza Raid I was able to join and complete.

Out of the 34 Mega Rayquaza Raids I completed, I was able to catch 25 Rayquaza from the raid completion encounter. I lost 9 Rayquazas due to how difficult it was to catch them, even with using Golden Razz Berry and Excellent Throws. Catching 25 out of 34 seen gives a 73.53 percent catch rate. Losing 9 may be a skill issue. This is probably due to us getting used to Ultra Balls during GO Fest and the most recent Raid Day Pokémon i.e. Lucario was easy to catch.

On average, that is 1 Rare Candy, 0 Rare Candy XL, 82 Mega Energy, 4 Rayquaza Candy, and 3 Rayquaza Candy XL per Mega Rayquaza Raid completed.

Experience Points (XP) and Stardust Gained

The XP and Stardust gains you will see below are only those received after completing a Mega Rayquaza raid.

Out of the 34 Mega Rayquaza Raids I completed, I was able to use 6 Lucky Eggs and 6 Star Pieces for 24 Mega Rayquaza Raids. A Lucky Eggs give 2x XP while a Star Piece gives 1.5x Stardust. On average, that is like 22,170 XP and 1,350 Stardust per Mega Rayquaza Raid completed.

If you ask me, this was a successful makeup raid day event for me based on what you have already seen in this recap. However, the remaining stats you will see below make it a non-successful makeup event for me.

Hundo and Shiny

As you already know, I completed 34 Mega Rayquaza raids and caught 25 Rayquazas. None of these is a hundo (perfect IV) or shiny. The best I got is a Weather Boosted 98% IV non-shiny Rayquaza.

What Did it Cost me?

As stated earlier, I did 32 Remote Raids and 2 Local Raids.

In terms of money, the only cost is the 32 Remote Raid Passes I used. A pack of 3 Remote Raid Passes costs 525 Poké Coins. 32 Remote Raid Passes cost 5,600 Poké Coins. This results in approximately $45 spent.

In terms of time, I completed the 34 Raids in a total of 125 minutes i.e. 2 hours and 5 minutes. The raids didn’t take too long as I was able to do 14 raids in 50 minutes.

In summary, I spent $45 and 125 minutes to get no 100% IV Rayquaza, no Shiny Rayquaza, 754000 XP, 46000 Stardust, 36 Rare Candy, 2780 Rayquaza Mega Energy, 132 Rayquaza Candy, 107 Rayquaza Candy XL, 152 Golden Razz Berry, 100 Silver Pinap Berry, 104 Hyper Portion, 86 Revives, 6 Fast TMs, and 46 Charged TMs.
