Mimikyu will start appearing in the wild (very rarely) from 12 a.m. local time on April 1, 2026. This is the first time Trainers will be able to catch the long-awaited Pokémon. This Pokémon will also appear during the April 1st, 2026, Spotlight Hour alongside Pikachu from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. local time.
However, it will be an encounter reward for Rank 30 and 60 on the A Shockingly Good Time event-exclusive GO Pass. All Trainers will be able to encounter Mimikyu on the free event GO Pass.
Furthermore, Mimikyu, the Disguise Pokémon, may be encountered either in the wild or when you complete Field Research tasks until the end of the A Shockingly Good Time event.
Mimikyu
It is a Ghost- and Fairy-type Pokémon from the Alola Region (PokéDex number 778) in Pokémon GO. Its maximum Combat Power stat is 2516 CP. Currently, it best attacks are Shadow Claw as a Fast Attack and Play Rough as a Charged Attack. Mimikyu is boosted when you use a Mega Ghost or Mega Fairy-type Pokémon.
It is recommended that you use either Mega Gengar, Mega Diancie, Mega Sableye, Mega Banette, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Mawile, Mega Altaria, or Mega Audino if you want to get more candy when catching Mimikyu. You should also use Pinap Berry when catching. It will cost you 520,000 Stardust, 304 Candy, and 296 Candy XL to fully power up Mimikyu in Pokémon GO.
Mimic Pikachu
This is a Pokémon dressed up in Pikachu’s attire. It is said that it is the most unloved Pokémon. So it dresses up like the most loved Pokémon – Pikachu. Consequently, this is why it has two forms, Diguised and Busted. These forms behave differently when used in Raids or Trainer Battles.
In Trainer battles, it will not receive damage from the first Charge Attack that hits it. However, it will then change to its Busted Form, which will cause a Defense drop for the rest of Trainer battles.
Initially, you will not be able to bring Mimikyu into battle. Beware that in the future Mimikyu will creep into battles, and it might just change your strategy! Stay tuned for a future game update to use it in battle.
As of March 13, 2026, Mimikyu has been banned from standard Great, Ultra, and Master League. Furthermore, it lost access to the Fast Attack, Charm, and Charged Attack, Shadow Ball. It gained Hex as a Fast Attack and Thunder as a Charged Attack.
As of June 23, 2026, Mimikyu is now eligible to battle in the GO Battle League. It is, however, not eligible to be used in the Competitors Cup.
