Weedle Spotlight Hour

Welcome to our comprehensive guide for the Weedle Spotlight Hour in Pokémon GO! If you are looking to maximize your Candy gains, hunt down rare Shiny variants, or prep powerful Bug and Poison-type assets for the Go Battle League or Raids, this guide covers everything you need to know.

What is Weedle Spotlight Hour?

The Pokémon GO Spotlight Hour takes place weekly, turning the spotlight on a specific Pokémon. For one full hour, the featured Pokémon spawns drastically more frequently in the wild.

For the Weedle Spotlight Hour, trainers will see Weedle swarming everywhere, paired with a special event bonus. Additionally, for the first time in Pokémon GO, Trainers may encounter its evolution, Kakuna & Beedrill in the wild. This Weedle Spotlight Hour provides a great designated window to stack up candy and secure high-IV forms.

  • Date & Time: Thursday, September 10, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Local Time)
  • Featured Pokémon: Weedle and its Evolutions
  • Active Bonus for the hour: 2× Candy for transferring Pokémon.

Weedle Spotlight Hour & Evolution Costs

Weedle is a dual Bug and Poison-type Pokémon from Generation 1 known as the Hairy Bug Pokémon. If you plan on evolving your catches during or after the event, refer to the evolution requirements below:

To maximize your candy earnings, toss Pinap Berries at wild Pokémon before catching them.

Please note that the Mega Squads event will be on while the Weedle Spotlight hour starts and ends. During the Mega Squads event, Mega Beedrill will be able to learn additional charge attack called Fell Stinger+. Likewise, Mega Beedrill is the featured Pokémon in Mega Raids from September 8 to September 15, 2026.

Can Weedle, Kakuna, and Beedrill be Shiny?

Yes! The entire Weedle family has its Shiny forms unlocked in Pokémon GO.

  • Shiny Weedle: Replaces its normal pale yellowish-brown skin with a distinct bright green body.

  • Shiny Kakuna: Shifts into a brighter, greenish-yellow cocoon.

  • Shiny Beedrill: Swaps its standard yellow stripes and body for a vibrant, neon-green aesthetic.

It’s important to note that Spotlight Hour does not increase shiny odds. However, because Weedle will appear much more frequently throughout the event, you’ll have many more opportunities to encounter a shiny compared to normal gameplay.

The best strategy is simple:

  • Catch as many as possible to gather candy for evolutions.

  • Walk through areas with dense spawn points.

  • Use Incense while moving.

  • Place Lure Modules on PokéStops.

  • Use the Quick Catch technique to maximize encounters.

Is Weedle Worth Catching?

Yes, Weedle is definitely worth catching, especially during its Spotlight Hour. While standard Weedle aren’t powerhouse like legendary Pokémon, catching them offers several unique and practical benefits in Pokémon GO:

  • Extremely Cheap Evolutions (Mass XP/Candy Grinds): Weedle only costs 12 Candies to evolve into Kakuna. This ultra-low evolution cost makes Weedle one of the best Pokémon in the entire game for Mass Evolutions (evolving dozens of Pokémon back-to-back while a Lucky Egg is active to maximize XP).
  • Mega Beedrill is a Top-Tier Raid Asset: While regular Beedrill is a bit of a “glass cannon”, Mega Beedrill is fantastic. It functions as an elite Bug-type raid attacker and a very solid Poison-type counter. Crucially, once you’ve registered Mega Beedrill in your Mega Dex, subsequent Mega Evolutions of Beedrill are completely free (after a cooldown period), making it the easiest and cheapest Mega Pokémon to maintain for extra Candy bonuses when catching other Bug or Poison types.
  • Great League Utility (With the Right Moves): Standard Beedrill sees some niche play in the Great League of the GO Battle League. Running it with Poison Sting, X-Scissor, and the legacy/community day ground-coverage move Drill Run allows it to surprise common Steel, Rock, and Fairy-type threats.

Tips to Prepare for Weedle Spotlight Hour

  • Stock Up on Poké Balls and Berries: Because spawns will be relentless for 60 minutes, you’ll burn through resources quickly. Load up on Pinap Berries to maximize your candy returns alongside the 2× Catch Candy bonus.
  • Utilize Mega Evolutions: Active a Mega-Evolved Bug or Poison-type Pokémon (like Mega Beedrill itself, Mega Pinsir, or Mega Scizor) to secure extra candy per catch.
  • Clear Your Pokémon Storage: Ensure you have plenty of room before 6:00 p.m. so you don’t waste time transferring Pokémon mid-event.
  • Activate Items: Pop a Lucky Egg if you want more XP, or a Star Piece if you want to optimize your time while catching back-to-back Pokémon.
  • Use Quick Catch: Quick Catch is the fastest way to increase the number of Pokémon you encounter. More catches mean more candy. How to perform Quick Catch: Hold and drag the Poké Ball menu icon (or the Berry icon) across the screen with one finger while throwing the Poké Ball with your other hand. Once the ball lands, tap the screen to bring up the fleeing icon in the top-left corner, skip the catch animation, and flee the encounter to save precious time.

  • Play in High-Spawn Locations: Parks, shopping districts, and downtown areas generally provide the highest concentration of wild Pokémon.

  • Activate an Adventure Effect: Activating Palkia’s Spacial Rend Adventure Effect will allow you to find and encounter Pokémon from farther away. This means you will be able to see more Weedle encounter.
