Dynamax Dialga: Best Counters and Tips in Pokémon GO (Nov 2026)

Dynamax Dialga

Battling Dynamax Dialga in Pokémon GO Max Battles requires precise team coordination, best counters, and an understanding of its unique typing. Because Max Battles restrict you to using Pokémon capable of Dynamaxing or Gigantamaxing, standard Mega Evolutions, and regular raid counters cannot participate directly in the Max Phase.

Dynamax Dialga will be making its debut in Pokémon during the in-person Pokémon GO Wild Area event in Sendai, Japan, and in Mexico City, Mexico. It will then be available globally during the Pokémon GO Wild Area 2026 Global Day 1. If you do not want to wait for the global access, you can join the battles remotely during the in-person events.

Dynamax Dialga Weaknesses and Resistances

Dialga retains its typing as a Steel/Dragon-type Pokémon.

  • Weaknesses: Fighting, Ground

  • Resistances: Bug, Electric, Flying, Normal, Psychic, Rock, Steel, Water

  • Double Resistances: Grass, Poison

Due to Dialga’s extensive list of resistances, you must strictly rely on Fighting- and Ground-type moves to deal super-effective damage.

Best Dynamax Dialga Counters

In high-tier Max Battles, roles matter as much as individual damage. Your 3-Pokémon team should feature dedicated Attackers to burst damage during the Dynamax Phase, along with bulky Defenders/Healers to build the Max Meter safely.

Primary Attackers

Use either of these during the Dynamaxing/Gigantamaxing phase of the Max Battle.

  • Eternatus: with Dragon Tail as a Fast Attack and Dynamax Cannon as a Charged and Max Attack.
  • Gigantamax Machamp with Counter or Karate Chop as a Fast Attack and Dynamic Punch as a Charged Attack. Ensure the one you use has G-Max Chi Strike as its Max Attack.
  • Dynamax Excadrill with Mud-Slap as a Fast Attack and Scorching Sands or Earthquake as a Charged Attack. Ensure the one you use has Max Quake as its Max Attack.

Top Defenders and Healers

When you are outside the Dynamax Phase, you need Pokémon with high HP/Stamina or key resistances to tank Dialga’s heavy hits.

  • Dynamax Blissey: The premier healer choice. Use Pound as a Fast Attack to quickly charge the Max Meter, then execute Max Spirit to restore lost HP for all team members.
  • Zamazenta (Crowned Shield) or Zacian (Crowned Sword): Outstanding defensive stats. Using Max Guard protects the group from Dialga’s un-dodgable area-of-effect attacks.
  • Gigantamax Snorlax or Gigantamax Lapras: High stamina options that can alternate between using Max Spirit or Max Guard.

Dynamax Dialga Max Battle Strategy & Team Composition

Dynamax Battles supports a group of 4 Trainers per lobby.  Coordinating roles within your 4-player group significantly speeds up clear times.

Ideal 4-Player Team Breakdown

  1. Player 1 (Lead Attacker): 3x Maxed Fighting Attackers. Focuses strictly on Max Attack.

  2. Player 2 (Secondary Attacker): 3x Ground Attackers (2x Ground Attackers and 1 Eternatus). Focuses on Max Attack.

  3. Player 3 (Dedicated Defender): Heavy defense team (Crowned Zamazenta). Focuses on timing Max Guard during Dialga’s major attack tell-signs.

  4. Player 4 (Dedicated Healer): High-HP healers (Blissey). Focuses on Max Spirit to keep all 4 lobbies alive.

Max Battle Step-by-Step Tactical Flow

  1. Fast-Attack Meter Charging: At the start of the battle, avoid spending time on regular Charged Attacks unless necessary. Stick to quick 0.5-second Fast Attacks to fill the central Max Meter as fast as possible.

  2. Collect Energy Icons: Keep an eye on the arena floor for glowing Max Energy icons and swipe into them immediately to boost your meter generation.

  3. Phase 1 (Support Focus): During the initial Dynamax phase, have your support players activate Max Spirit (Heal) and Max Guard (Shield).

  4. Phase 2 (Burst Damage): Switch in your primary Fighting or Ground attacker right before the second Dynamax Phase triggers to unleash consecutive Level 3 G-Max Chi Strikes or Max Quakes.

  5. Cheer Mechanics: If a player’s entire team faints, continue tapping the Cheer button to accelerate the Max Meter growth for surviving teammates.

Dynamax Dialga Catch CP and 100% IV Values

After defeating Dynamax Dialga at a Power Spot, the post-battle capture encounter CP ranges are:

  • 100% IV (Level 20, Regular Weather): 2,307 CP

  • Base Catch Floor (10/10/10 IVs): 2,217 CP

Defeating Dynamax Dialga in Pokémon GO Max Battles requires more than just raw power. It demands a strategic blend of Fighting- and Ground-type attackers, disciplined role allocation, and well-timed defensive shielding. Whether you are battling during the in-person Wild Area events or jumping into the global weekend, coordinating your 4-player team will make all the difference between victory and a wiped lobby. Prepare your G-Max Machamps and Excadrills, communicate with your squad, and claim your legendary temporal Pokémon!
