Shadow vs. Performance
While Shadow Raikou and Shadow Chesnaught offer massive raw DPS advantages due to the 20% Shadow damage bonus, they require significant Stardust investment and take more damage in return. Megas like Mega Venuasaur and Mega Mewtwo Y provide invaluable attack boosts to your entire raid group, making them a top priority if you are raiding in pairs or small groups.
You can pick any six from these to form your battle party before heading into the raid. Remember that you can only have one Mega-Evolved or Primal Pokémon active on your team at any given time.
If you want to earn extra Kyogre Candy while participating in the raids, you can have Mega Gyarados active, but do not use it in your raid party.
Best Budget Kyogre Recommended Counters
If you don’t have access to top-tier Shadow variants, maxed-out or Mega Pokémon, don’t worry. Kyogre’s weakness to Electric and Grass means there are plenty of excellent, readily available budget alternatives
- Magnezone with Spark or Volt Switch as a Fast Attack and Wild Charge as a Charged Attack.
- Electivire with Thunder Shock as a Fast Attack and Wild Charge as a Charged Attack.
- Chesnaught with Vine Whip as a Fast Attack and Frenzy Plant as a Charged Attack.
- Roserade with Magical Leaf or Razor Leaf as a Fast Attack and Grass Knot as a Charged Attack.
- Venusaur with Vine Whip as a Fast Attack and Frenzy Plant as a Charged Attack.
Kyogre Raid Tips
Maximizing your performance in these raids takes more than just a great roster of Kyogre Recommended Counters. Consider these strategies:
- Lead with an Electric- or Grass-type Pokémon like Zekrom or Mega Venusaur to activate an instant damage boost for your raid partners’ attacks.
- Try to focus entirely on Electric- or Grass-type movesets to take full advantage of Kyogre’s weakness.
- If possible, challenge Kyogre during Rainy weather to give your Electric attacks an extra offensive edge, or Suny weather to boost your Grass-type attacks.
Kyogre Moves to Watch Out For
Kyogre can carry a variety of moves that impact your survival rate:
- Waterfall (Fast Attack) and Hydro Pump, Surf, or Origin Pulse (Charged Attack): Your Grass types will easily resist these water-type attacks, making them highly reliable options.
- Blizzard (Charged Attack): This is Kyogre’s most dangerous coverage move. It deals devastating, 1.6× super-effective damage to your Grass-type counters, often knocking them out in a single hit. If you notice Kyogre is running Blizzard, jump out of the lobby and replace your Grass-type counters with your Electric-type counters (like Zekrom, Xurkitree, and Magnezone).
- Thunder (Charged Attack): Standard damage for most counters, though your Electric types will easily resist it.
How Many Trainers are Needed?
With optimized Level 40+ Kyogre Recommended Counters, a group of 2 to 3 high-level trainers can successfully defeat Kyogre. However, for a completely stress-free victory to maximize your reward securements, a group of 4 to 7 prepared trainers is recommended
Hundo CP for Kyogre from Raids
After winning the Five-Star Raid, you will receive item rewards and an encounter with Kyogre (which can be shiny)
The “hundo” CP (100% IVs) depends heavily on the weather conditions when you get to the encounter screen:
- Standard Hundo CP: 2351 CP
- Weather-Boosted Hundo CP: 2939CP (Rainy weather).
If you get a strong one, the best standard attacks for Kyogre are Waterfall as a Fast Attack and Origin Pulse as a Charged Attack.
How to Catch Kyogre Easily
Kyogre can be a frustrating legendary to catch because it floats from the left to the right side of your screen.
- Use the Circle Lock Technique: Hold down your Premier Ball until the targeting circle shrinks to an “Excellent” size, then let go. Wait for Kyogre to return to the dead center of the screen.
- Time Your Throw: As soon as Kyogre begins its attack animation in the center of the screen, spin your curveball. Throw the ball right as the attack animation finishes so the circle is locked to your preferred size.
- Be Patient: Avoid throwing when Kyogre is drifted to the far left or right edges of the screen, as hitting an Excellent throw becomes significantly harder.
