Ozone Ascent Rayquaza will make its debut in Pokémon GO during an event scheduled to start on Saturday, July 25, at 10:00 a.m. local time. This event will be on until Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. local time. Trainers will be able to catch a powerful Pokémon GO Ozone Ascent event Rayquaza and earn a rare Meteorite.
At the start of the event, a free Timed Research will be available to Trainers. You will need to complete the tasks associated with the free Timed Research to earn a Meteorite, an encounter with Rayquaza, and more.
Ozone Ascent Rayquaza
Before we get into details, please note that Ozone Ascent is not a Rayquaza’s attack type. It is the name of the event featuring the return of Rayquaza and Meteorite(s). Rayquaza’s exclusive Charged Attack is Dragon Ascent. During the Ozone Ascent event, you get the items needed to teach Rayquaza that attack.
Rayquaza and Mega Evolution
Rayquaza cannot Mega Evolve with Mega Energy alone. To Mega Evolve Rayquaza, you will need to teach it the Charged Attack Dragon Ascent. Dragon Ascent can only be learned by using Meteorites. Dragon Ascent cannot be learned with a regular TM or Elite Charged TM.
If you have enough Rayquaza Mega Energy and the Rayquaza has learned the Charged Attack Dragon Ascent, you can then mega-evolve it.
Meteorite will be available as a reward after completing all the free Timed Research tasks. The tasks associated with Timed Research must be completed, and their rewards must be claimed before Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. local time.
Dragon Ascent is a Flying-type Charge attack. Its usefulness is as follows.
- Gym and Raid battles (PvE): deals 140 damage while costing 50 energy.
- GO Battle League and Trainer Battles (PvP): deals 110 damage while costing 45 energy.
- Supereffectiveness: super effective against Fighting-, Bug-, and Grass-type Pokémon.

Step-by-Step: How to Teach Rayquaza Dragon Ascent
Once you have successfully claimed a Meteorite from your Timed Research, follow these steps to use it:
- Open your Pokémon Storage, then search and select the Rayquaza you want to upgrade.
- Scroll to its current moveset.
- You will see the “Dragon Ascent” button with the Meteorite symbol beside it.
- Tap on it.
- Confirm that you want to teach Rayquaza Dragon Ascent.
- If your Rayquaza already has two Charged Attacks, you will be prompted to choose which move to overwrite.
