Pokémon GO Experience Points often called XP, is an intangible asset Pokémon GO players accumulate for every action taken in-game. XP is a measure of a trainer’s progress in Pokémon GO. XP can be earned through various actions such as catching Pokémon, spinning PokéStops, battling in Gyms and Raids, hatching eggs, completing Research tasks, and so on.
I started the year 2024 as a Level 50 Pokémon GO player and ended the year with enough XP to get towards level 60 whenever that is released in Pokémon GO.

How Many Pokémon Go Experience Points Did I Accumulate?
At the time of writing this post (Friday, December 27, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. EST), I have accumulated a total of 178,567,766 XP throughout the year 2024. I started the year with 644,940,983 XP and currently have 823,508,749 XP.
To put 178,567,766 XP in perspective, that is the amount of XP needed to get to:
- Level 50 one time and have extra XP for level 60. In Pokémon GO, you need 176,000,000 XP to reach level 50.
- Level 40 eight times and have extra XP for level 50. In Pokémon GO, you need 20,000,000 XP to reach level 40.
This is huge!
My Monthly XPs
To further anaylze how huge the 178,567,766 XP is, I am going to divide them into months. I kept a record of these so that I could write about them at the end of the year. You will find these in the table below.

Analysis
Let’s talk about the three (3) large upticks. The first large uptick was between January 2024 and February 2024. I went from 4.7 million XP to 13.3 million XP. As you may have guessed correctly, the uptick was because of the Global Sinnoh Tour that took place between Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. local time and Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. local time. The second large uptick was between June 2024 and July 2024. Again, that was because of another major event. This time it was the Global GO Fest that took place between Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. local time and Sunday, July 14, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. local time. The last large uptick was between October 2024 and November 2024. This was due to the Global Wild Area event that took place between Saturday, November 23, 10:00 a.m. local time, and Sunday, November 24, 2024 p.m. local time.
Conclusion
We can rightly conclude that major events directly lead to more XP. However, that depends on whether you took part in the major events and used lots of Lucky Eggs (or used Dialga’s Roar of Time which pauses time in Pokémon GO).
Furthermore, all the other small upticks were made possible due to small events like 2x Catch XP spotlight hours, 3x Catch XP Community Days, additional Catch XP Raid Days, additional Catch XP events, etc. This also includes using Lucky Eggs for Friendship Level-ups.
All these are great. However, I did not reach my goal of 1 billion XP by the end of 2024. I am 176,491,251 XP short. Oh wow! This is almost what I earned in 2024! It will take me another full year to reach that 1 billion XP.
I hope you find this useful.
