The World Championships Celebration Event in Pokémon GO starts on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. local time and ends on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time. The event promises to be a friendly battle time in Pokémon GO as top qualifying Pokémon GO Players from around the world compete to determine who will be crowned the 2024 Pokémon GO World Champion.
In addition, a new costumed Pikachu (that can be shiny) will be making its debut in Pokémon GO. It is the World Championships Pikachu. Likewise, for the first time in Pokémon GO, trainers can get Shiny Mienfoo if lucky.
World Championships Celebration Event Details
Event Bonuses
During the event, trainers will have access to the following bonuses.
- Up to five Special Trades can be made each day
- You can use a Charged TM to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration
Wild Encounters
The following Pokémon will appear more frequently during the event.
- Mankey
- Lickitung
- Marill
- Paldean Wooper
- Swablu
- Fletchling
- Carbink
- Grubbin
- Skarmory
All can be shiny except Carbink. The wild encounters that can be shiny have a shiny odds of 1/500 except Lickitung, Swablu, and Skarmory with 1/64 shiny odds.
Field Research Tasks
There will be event-based Field Research tasks that reward trainers with an encounter with certain Pokémon, depending on which task is it. The tasks and rewards are as follows.
- Spin 5 PokéStops or Gyms: 5 Poké Ball or 2 Revive or 3 Super Portion.
- Win a Raid: World Championships 2024 Pikachu (100% IV is 402 CP) or Mienfoo (100% IV is 595 CP).
- Power up Pokémon 10 times: Mienfoo (100% IV is 595 CP).
- Power up Pokémon 15 times: World Championships 2024 Pikachu (100% IV is 402 CP).
- Battle in the GO Battle League: Swablu (100% IV is 353 CP), or Mareanie (100% IV is 416 CP).
- Battle in the GO Battle League 5 times: World Championships 2024 Pikachu (100% IV is 402 CP).

PokéStop Showcases
Be on the lookout for showcases at different PokéStops. You will have an opportunity to showcase your largest Pokémon and be able to get items when the showcase ends.
