Update to Pokémon GO Max Battles

The new update to Pokémon GO Max Battles will take effect from Monday, May 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. PDT (GMT -7). This update is set to begin a few days before Gigantamax Machamp Max Battle Day

The new update to Pokémon GO Max Battles will allow Trainers from around the world to join Max Battles remotely. You can do this with a Remote Raid Pass and required Max Particles. This means that all Max Battles can be joined via Remote Raid Passes and Max Particles.

This change will remain in effect after the conclusion of the event. However, on special events, the maximum Remote Raid limits for Max Battles may increase. The daily Remote Raid limit will increase from five to 10. Participating in Max Battles will count towards the daily limit of Remote Raids.

However, Trainers who participate in Max Battles in person will earn more Premier Balls and XP than before. In addition, the limit of Max Particles Trainers can hold will increase from 1,000 to 1,500. This maximum may increase for special events.

Important Detail to know

The update means you would have to pay for a Remote Raid Pass and Max Particles for every Dynamax or Gigantamax Battle. This is (i) expensive – paying double for every battle, and (ii) risky – your Remote Raid Pass will be used upon starting the Max battle. This means if you lose the Max Battle, you lose the Remote Raid Pass. This is not like the usual case of restarting Max Battles if you lose one because Max Particles are ONLY used upon winning a Max Battle. Likewise, re-lobbying for a Max Battle because the featured Pokémon has a move you can’t resist will consume a Remote Raid Pass for every re-lobbying.

Prepare for battle! Gather with a global community of Trainers and enjoy the thrill of battling and catching powerful Pokémon.
