Nickit Community Day Guide: August 2026

Trainers, get ready to slip into the shadows and hunt for one of Galar’s trickiest foxes. Niantic Explore has officially announced that Nickit, the Fox Pokémon, will be the featured Pokémon for the August 2026 Community Day!

Whether you are a dedicated Shiny hunter, a competitive PvP battler, or a Trainer looking to stock up on Stardust, this event has massive rewards waiting for you. Mark your calendars, clear your Pokémon storage, and prepare for a Sunday filled with hunting and evolving. Here is your guide to everything happening during the Nickit Community Day.

Nickit Community Day Event Schedule and Timing

The main event takes place on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. However, the fun does not completely stop at 5:00 p.m. Several key bonuses, including special trading discounts and extended Lure Module spawns, will remain active until 9:00 p.m. local time. This extended window gives you plenty of extra time to clean up your inventory, execute trades with friends, and pull off your final evolutions.

Featured Pokémon: Shiny Nickit and Special Background

During the three-hour Nickit Community Day window, Nickit will spawn at massively increased rates in the wild. If you are lucky, you will encounter its Shiny variant.

Additionally, this event highlights a major mechanic introduced earlier this year: Yearly Special Backgrounds. Nickit caught during the event have a chance to feature a unique, collectible background on their summary screen. If you are a collector who loves rare variants, hunting down a high-IV, Shiny Nickit with a Special Background will be your ultimate goal for the day.

How do Special Backgrounds work?

Introduced as a permanent collectible feature, these backgrounds decorate the catch summary screen with unique artwork celebrating the year 2026. They are purely cosmetic but highly prized by collectors. You have a fixed chance to obtain them from wild catches during event hours, but they are guaranteed rewards from the Special Research ticket and specific Community Ambassador tasks.

Nickit Community Day Exclusive Move: Thievul with Icy Wind

Evolving your Nickit into Thievul during the event or up to four hours afterward (by 9:00 p.m. local time) unlocks the exclusive Charged Attack: Icy Wind. Icy Wind is an Ice-type Charge Attack that deals 65 damage while costing 33 energy in Gym and Raid battles. In GO Battle League, Icy Wind deals 60 damage while costing 45 energy.

PvP Breakdown: Is Icy Wind Thievul Good?

As a pure Dark-type Pokémon, Thievul usually relies on moves like Foul Play or Play Rough. Adding Icy Wind to its attack pool gives it a massive utility boost, especially in the Great League.

• The Debuff Advantage: Icy Wind is a guaranteed Attack debuff on your opponent. This allows Thievul to stall out matches, flip losing matchups, and survive much longer against neutral attackers.
• Type Coverage: An Ice-type move helps Thievul hit back against common Dragon, Flying, and Ground types that dominate competitive leagues.

If you enjoy forming competitive teams for the GO Battle League, make sure you secure at least one or two solid Great League IV Thievul (low Attack, high Defense, and high HP) with this exclusive move. The rank 1 Thievul for Great League and Ultra League have the following IV spread.

• Great League: 0-15-11
• Ultra League:  15-15-15

Hundo (Shiny) Nickit from Research

Field and Special Research will be available during the August 2026 Community Day. A Nickit with 306 CP from a Research encounter is a hundo. If shiny, that is a Shundo. Likewise, its evolution, Thievul with 915 CP from a research encounter, is a hundo. If shiny, that is a Shundo.

The following research tasks will reward Nickit as an encounter when completed.

• Field Research Tasks: Catch 3 Nickit.
• Community Day–themed Field Research. Catch Nickit to earn rewards such as Stardust, Ultra Balls, Great Balls, Pinap Berry, and encounters with Nickit. You may even find Field Research tasks that lead to encounters with Nickit that have a Special Background if you’re lucky! The Field Research tasks that reward an encounter with the featured Pokémon that have a Special Background are as follows.
  • Catch 50 Pokémon
  • Catch 5 Pokémon while in a Party

• Trading Discounts: You can make up to two Special Trades for the day, and all trades require 50% less Stardust. These trading bonuses run all the way until 9:00 p.m.
• Buddy Snapshots: Don’t forget to take 5 snapshots of your buddy at different times to encounter Nickit.

The following are the most essential tips to make the best out of this community day.

• Mega evolved a Mega Level 3 Dark-type Pokémon: This helps you get additional Candy, Candy XL, and XP when you catch Nickit.
