Xurkitree is a pure Electric-type Legendary Ultra Beast that is exclusively vulnerable to Ground-type attacks. A well-prepared team of high-DPS Ground-type Pokémon can bring it down efficiently. Bringing the right counters will make all the difference if you are planning to farm Candy, hunt for a shiny, or add Xurkitree to your collection.
It will be available in Five-Star Raids in Pokémon GO from Wednesday, September 23, at 6:00 a.m. to Tuesday, September 29, at 10:00 p.m. local time.
Although it will be available regionally in the Asia-Pacific, its raids can be joined remotely.

Note that Ground-type attackers play heavily into Xurkitree’s sole core weakness while resisting its Electric-type incoming attacks. Furthermore, you can only use one Mega/Primal Pokémon per raid lobby. If you are looking to earn extra candy for every Xurkitree caught as a raid encounter, use a matching Mega Level 3 Electric-type Pokémon (like Mega Manectric or Mega Ampharos) instead.
Xurkitree Raid Boss Moveset
When battling it in raids, it will utilize any of its own sets of Fast and Charged attacks. Being aware of its moveset helps you anticipate incoming damage:
- Fast Attacks: Spark (Electric) and Thunder Shock (Electric).
- Charged Attacks: Discharge (Electric), Power Whip (Grass), Dazzling Gleam (Fairy), and Thunder (Electric).
Note: Watch out for Power Whip, which hits Ground-type counters for super-effective damage! Avoid bringing Pokémon that rely on Flying, Steel, or Electric-type attacks, as Xurkitree resists these damage types.

Having the best counters may not be enough. You also need a good strategy. The following tips will help you a great deal:
- Lead with a Mega Ground Pokémon (like Primal Groudon or Mega Garchomp) to boost teammates’ Ground-type attacks.
- Coordinate Mega Evolutions with your raid group for maximum efficiency.
- Use Pokémon with matching Fast and Ground-type Charged Moves.
- Revive and rejoin if necessary rather than using weaker backup teams.
- If you can, battle Xurkitree during Sunny / Clear weather conditions in-game, as it boosts Ground-type attacks for an extra damage edge.
How Many Trainers are Needed?
Due to Xurkitree’s double damage taken from Ground-type attacks, it can be tackled very efficiently. In ideal conditions with top-tier counters like Primal Groudon or Shadow Garchomp, it can be easily duoed (2 prepared players). However, for most trainers utilizing standard or budget counters, a group of 3 to 5 players will comfortably defeat Xurkitree.
Maximize Your Catch Chances
Once you successfully defeat it, you will enter the bonus catch phase. Keep these tips in mind to secure your catch:
- Golden Razz Berries: Always use a Golden Razz Berry combined with a Curveball Throw to maximize your capture rate. If it is Shiny Xurkitree, use a Silver Pinap Berry instead.
- Great/Excellent Throws: Practice your timing to land consistent Great or Excellent throws, which drastically increase the catch multiplier.
- Gym Control & Friend Bonuses: Raid with your Best or Ultra Friends and ensure your team controls the gym to earn extra Premier Balls.
Hundo CP for Xurkitree from Raids
You will get rewards such as Rare Candies, other items, and an encounter with Xurkitree after completing the raid successfully.
The hundo CP (i.e., the perfect IV CP) caught from raids depends on the in-game weather condition when it was caught. If caught during Rainy weather conditions, the weather-boosted hundo CP is 2,812 CP (Level 25). Otherwise, the standard hundo CP (Level 20) is 2,249 CP.
