Various sized Pokémon made their debut in Pokémon GO this year (2023). In addition to that, you can also get medals for a certain number of huge (XXL sized) and tiny (XXS) sized Pokémon you are able to catch. You need to catch 500 of each size Pokémon to get a platinum medal for either.
If you are following, this is the first reason why you should keep those huge and tiny Pokémon. You don’t need to catch 500 of each to get the platinum medal. You just need to evolve as many as you can. For example, when you catch one XXS Pokémon at its base level. Evolving it increases your catch count by either two (2) or three (3), depending on the number of evolution stages the Pokémon has.
The other reason why you should keep these Pokémon is because of the event-based Pokémon showcases. You can put those huge Pokémon into showcases and earn nice rewards (items and XP) after the showcase ends. In addition, there’s a platinum medal for this. To get the Showcase Star platinum medal, you need to win 100 PokéStop Showcases. However, please note that not all XXL Pokémon may win a PokéStop showcase. There have been situations where an XL Pokémon has more showcase points than an XXL Pokémon.
What are Gyms for? Many things. One of which is “showoff”. You can put either your tallest or tiniest Pokémon in gyms to show off your catch ‘em all skills. I bet there are Pokémon trainers out there that would check out your Pokémon and compare its size with the other ones in the gym.
A strategy that could help…
Keep those huge and tiny Pokémon. Enter them into PokéStop Showcases. After the showcase ends, evolve them. Then either transfer or trade as many as you don’t need.
If you do not know how to find these Pokémon in your storage, simply type either XXL or XXS to see them in your Pokémon storage.
Now that you know this, go ahead and keep catching those Pokémon with the “It’s Huge” animation when you click on them in the wild or they pop up as a research encounter.
