Finding the right Mega Staraptor Recommended Counters is essential because Mega Staraptor is a dual Fighting- and Flying-type Pokémon. It possesses weaknesses to Electric-, Fairy-, Flying-, Ice-, and Psychic-type attacks. Taking advantage of these weaknesses with top-tier counters will allow you to quickly defeat this raid boss, harvest Mega Energy, or hunt for its shiny form.
Mega Staraptor will be available in Super Mega Raids in Pokémon GO on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time.

Super Mega Raids Difficulty
Super Mega Raids introduce unique challenge mechanics. Unlike standard Mega Raids, the boss can become enraged and deploy shields that heavily reduce damage taken from normal attacks. Players must work together to break these shields, though each trainer can only take down a single shield. Furthermore, Primal Pokémon cannot break these shields, making coordination essential. Because of these heavy defensive barriers, it is recommended that you have a minimum group size of at least 8 active trainers with optimal recommended counters and a Mega Evolved Pokémon on their battle team.
Entry Requirements & Passes
To participate in Super Mega Raids, local battles require a combination of Link Charges or a standard Premium Battle Pass. If you are joining remotely, you must use both a Remote Raid Pass and Link Charges. Plan your resources ahead of the 3-hour event window to maximize your raids.
Super Mega Lobby Strategy & Survival
Mastering a Super Mega Raid requires strict lobby alignment beyond just picking the right counters:
The Slot 6 Mega Placement: Always place your active Mega Evolution in the 6th slot of your battle party. Putting it in Slot 1 risks it fainting prematurely before the boss enters its shield phase.
Check Your Revives: Ensure your designated Mega Pokémon is fully healed and revived prior to entering the lobby. An unrevived or fainted Mega cannot break shields, which frequently causes tight groups to fail.
Shield Counter Tracking: Pay close attention to the lobby indicator showing how many shields the boss will deploy. Your team must coordinate to ensure an equal or greater number of healthy, active Mega-evolved trainers are locked in before the timer begins.
Leverage Party Power: Fast attacks independently charge your Party Power meter. Maximize this during the encounter to double your charged attack damage once the boss’s shields are safely cleared.

Legendary and Shadow options output massive damage, but standard alternatives will easily pull their weight. Furthermore, you can only use one Mega Pokémon per raid lobby. If you are looking to earn extra candy for every Staraptor caught as a raid encounter, use a matching Mega Level 3 (or 4) Fighting- or Flying-type Pokémon, e.g., Mega Chesnaught, Mega Blaziken, Mega Rayquaza, Mega Dragonite.
Do not use Primal Pokémon in Super Mega Raids. They do not currently break Super Raids’ shields.
