.The Mega Evolution System in Pokémon GO is getting another update. These updates will take effect from the start of the in-person Pokémon GO Fest 2026. Other Trainers who cannot attend the in-person events will be able to experience these updates during the Global GO Fest 2026.
Mega Evolution System Updates
Faster Mega Level Progression
Trainers will have the option to use their extra Mega Energy to quickly level up their Pokémon’s Mega Levels. You will be able to do this without needing to wait for the daily progression cooldown.
If you have thousands of Mega Energy for any Mega Evolvable Pokémon, you can use that Mega Energy to increase the level of the Mega Pokémon. It will be like the current Max Level 4, where you need 5,000 Mega Energy to increase the level of Mega Dragonite, Mega Malamar, and Mega Victreebel from Mega Level 3 to Mega Level 4.

Split Mega Level Progression
For Pokémon with multiple Mega Evolutions, such as Charizard and Mewtwo, progression will now be tracked individually for each Mega Evolution (i.e., their X and Y versions).
Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y
- Any Charizard that you have Mega Evolved will carry over its Mega Level to both Mega Evolutions after this split.
- Any new Charizard’s Mega Evolutions will now require separate Mega Energy. You can get the Mega energy by defeating either Mega Charizard X or Mega Charizard Y in Mega Raids.
- If you already have Charizard Mega Energy, you will be awarded that amount of both Mega Charizard X Energy and Mega Charizard Y Energy after this split.
Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y
The Mega Level for Mega Mewtwo X will increase independently from the Mega Level for Mega Mewtwo Y.
