Takeaway: Mega Mewtwo Y’s attack is generally stronger. Mega Mewtwo X’s dual typing gives it niche utility against certain Pokémon attacks and Pokémon types, especially those that are weak to its fighting-type attack (i.e., Focus Blast). In essence, if you are looking at their CPs and attacks, you can say Mega Mewtwo Y is attack-weighted.

📊 Stats & Fighting Roles

  • Mega Mewtwo X gains Fighting-type Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) due to its typing and its Fighting-type attack. However, these give Fairy-, Flying-, and Ghost-type attacks an advantage over it. In raid battles, X is a great choice if the raid boss is weak to Fighting-type attacks (e.g., Dark-, or Normal-type bosses). It could also be a great choice against Fighting and Rock-type bosses since it resists these attacks.

  • Mega Mewtwo Y‘s Psychic-only type helps it to maximize Psychic damage without extra weaknesses to Fairy and Flying-type attacks. This makes it safer and broader as a primary psychic-type mega attacker in raids. However, it is still weak to Bug and Dark-type attacks. Y is the go-to Psychic-type mega for most of the raid bosses that are weak to Psychic damage. Y’s high pure Psychic power makes it one of the top special attacker megas on many raid bosses.

⚔️ Damage per Second (DPS) and Total Damage Output (TDO) Considerations

  • Mega Mewtwo X has a flexible charge attack (i.e., Focus Blast (Fighting). This attack gives it extra coverage against Dark/Rock types. X can be better versus Pokémon that benefit from Fighting moves, but generally has slightly lower top-end DPS than Y overall.

  • Mega Mewtwo Y typically shows higher damage per second (DPS). However, this is against Psychic-weak Pokémon. The DPS also works if it has Psy cho Cut as a Fast and Psystrike as a Charged Attack. Y tends to win in pure damage output against Psychic-vulnerable Pokémon.

🏆 PvP / League Utility

  • Mega Mewtwo Y‘s high CP stat and best moves (like Psystrike and Shadow Ball) make it very useful in the Mega Master League. It is best used in Master League formats where Mega Pokémon are allowed.
  • Mega Mewtwo X‘s Fighting type can give extra utility vs specific matchups.

Mega Mewtwo Y is usually the more impactful & broadly powerful mega evolution in Pokémon GO due to its higher overall damage and simpler usage. Mega Mewtwo X is best reserved for specific raid bosses where its Fighting STAB gives an edge, or for stylistic preferences if you enjoy mixed coverage roles.

Top 10 Super Mega Raids Tips

Doing the following will help you make the best out of the Super Mega Raid Day. Success depends not only on having the best counters. Coordination is very important.

  • Make sure every Trainer uses a Mega Pokémon in the raid. You need at least 8 Mega Pokémon in the raid.
  • Don’t use Primal Groudon (or Primal Kyogre) since they cannot be used to break shields during a Super Mega Raid.
  • Each Trainer can only break one shield. You cannot win if the shields are not broken.
  • Aim for a larger lobby than the minimum of 8 Trainers.
  • Put your Mega Pokémon in the last slot of your battle team.
  • Use your Mega Pokémon’s charged attack only when the raid boss starts using shields.
  • If your Mega Pokémon faints before breaking the shield, go into the raid lobby, revive your Mega Pokémon, and then re-enter the raid immediately.
  • If you are remote raiding, ensure that the minimum number of Mega Pokémon in the raid is 8 and that the raid party is at least 10 Trainers.
  • Create a saved Battle Party of the six (6) counters you want to use.
  • Don’t forget to heal and revive your battle party after each raid.
