Pokémon GO Road of Legends Preparation Guide (2026)

What Trainers Should Prepare Before the Event Begins

The Pokémon GO Road of Legends event is set to become one of the most important preparation events leading into Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Global. Running from Monday, July 6, at 12:01 a.m. to Friday, July 10, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. local time, this special event offers a massive lineup of Legendary Pokémon, Ultra Beasts, Mega Evolutions, raid bonuses, and exclusive GO Pass rewards designed to help Trainers strengthen their teams before GO Fest weekend.

Because many of the strongest Pokémon in Pokémon GO will be available during the event, proper preparation can significantly improve your results. Whether you’re a casual player or a dedicated raider, here are the most important things you should do before Road of Legends begins.

Stock Up on Raid Passes

Pokémon GO Road of Legends is primarily a raid-focused event. Legendary Pokémon, Ultra Beasts, Primal Pokémon, and Mega Evolutions will rotate throughout the week, with dedicated Raid Hours and Mega Raid Hours scheduled daily.

Before the event starts, consider:

  • Saving PokéCoins for Premium Battle Passes.
  • Purchasing Remote Raid Passes if you plan to join raids worldwide.
  • Coordinating with local raid groups and friends.
  • Clearing your schedule during Raid Hours for maximum efficiency.

One of the event’s bonuses is the unlimited use of the Remote Raid Pass. This will be available through GO Fest Global, allowing Trainers to participate in significantly more remote raids than usual.

Prepare Proper Counter Teams in Advance for Pokémon GO Road of Legends

One of the biggest mistakes Trainers make during large raid events is building raid teams at the last minute.

Pokémon GO Road of Legends will feature all legendary raid bosses, including some Mega Pokémon. The first day of the event (i.e., Monday, July 6, 2026) will be massive. You will want to prepare your counters right away.

Before the event:

  • Power up your strongest raid attackers.
  • Create battle parties with counters for the different raid bosses.
  • Ensure your Mega Evolutions are available and ready to use.

Having pre-built teams can save valuable time when multiple raid rotations occur throughout the week.

For the available raids, please check Road of Legends Raid Encounters.

Stock up on Incubators

If you are interested in the event-themed Eggs that will be available starting Monday, July 6, 2026, then you will want to stock up on Incubators as much as you can.

To help you decide, the following Pokémon can be hatched from Eggs.

  • 2 km Eggs: Weedle, Pidgey, Abra, Gastly, Pinsir, Aerodactyl, Mareep, Larvitar, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Ralts, Bagon, Beldum, Gible, Riolu, Snover, Audino, and Larvesta.
  • 5 km Eggs: Bulbasaur wearing Pikachu visor, Charmander wearing Pikachu visor, Squirtle wearing Pikachu visor, Heracross, Mime Jr., and Larvesta.
  • 10 km Eggs: Tropius, Axew, Bouffalant, Larvesta, Goomy, Jangmo-o, Toxel, and Frigibax.

Please note that Larvesta may hatch from 2 km, 5 km, or 10 km Eggs. This means it will be rarer to hatch.

Which Eggs Should You Focus On?

Given the limited time, here is how you should prioritize your Incubators based on meta-relevance and rarity:

  • Tier 1 (High Priority – 10 km & 5 km): Focus heavily on 10 km Eggs for Frigibax (Baxcalibur is an incredible Ice attacker), Jangmo-o, and Toxel. The 5 km Eggs featuring the Pikachu visor and starters are a must for costume collectors.
  • Tier 2 (Medium Priority – 2 km): If you need XL Candy for Master League or Raids, the 2 km pool is excellent for farming Beldum (Metagross), Gible (Garchomp), Larvitar (Tyranitar), and Riolu (Lucario).
  • The Larvesta Chase: Because Larvesta is diluted across all three egg distances, only chase it if you have a massive surplus of Super Incubators.

Clear Pokémon Storage

Pokémon GO Road of Legends may generate hundreds of catches through raids alone. Many Trainers underestimate how quickly their Pokémon storage fills up during GO Fest preparation events.

Before July 6:

  • Transfer unwanted Pokémon.
  • Tag valuable Pokémon for future trading.
  • Organize PvP Pokémon.
  • Remove duplicate legendaries you no longer need.
  • Buy extra storage space.

Special Background Pokémon may be available from certain raid encounters during the event, making storage management even more important.

Free Up Item Bag Space

A full item bag can severely limit your ability to take advantage of the event.

Consider removing excess Potions, regular Revives, Berries, and unused Evolution Items. You will be getting loads of potions, revives, etc after winning the raids. Instead, prioritize space for Rare Candy, Rare Candy XL, Max Revives, Golden Razz Berries, and Premium Battle Passes.

Since you’ll likely be raiding heavily, having room for rewards is essential.

It is important to note that Premier Balls will be more effective after raids. So, you may not need to use Golden Razz Berry when catching a raid encounter. Use either Pinap Berry or Silver Pinap Berry instead.

Save Pokémon for Trading

One of the most valuable bonuses during Pokémon GO Road of Legends is guaranteed Candy XL from trades for Trainers level 31 and above.

Before the event:

  • Save legendary duplicates, especially those you caught by participating in remote raids from your city.
  • Coordinate trade sessions with friends.
  • Keep a few of the other Pokémon you want XL Candy for.

Unfortunately, there is no Friendship Friday and the other Daily Discoveries this week. Consequently, this bonus can significantly accelerate progress toward powering up Master League Pokémon and raid attackers.

Work on Friendship Levels

Friendship bonuses become extremely valuable during major raid events.

Increasing friendship before Road of Legends provides:

  • Additional Premier Balls in raids.
  • Increased raid damage.
  • Reduced Stardust costs for trades.
  • Better coordination opportunities.

Open gifts daily and interact with raid partners before the event begins to maximize these benefits.

Plan on Completing the GO Pass Tasks

Pokémon GO Road of Legends introduces a dedicated GO Pass with both free and Deluxe reward tracks. Rewards include Incubators, Incense, Candy, Candy XL, avatar items, and even a Lucky Trinket for Free Pass and Gold Bottle Cap for Deluxe Pass holders who reach Rank 100.

The GO Pass will be available till Sunday, July 12, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. You will have enough time and activities to earn points towards the completion of either GO Pass track.

For more details about the Featured Pokémon and Rewards, please check GO Pass: Road of Legends.

Gather Stardust and Rare Candy

Many Trainers will catch powerful Pokémon during Pokémon GO Road of Legends and immediately want to power them up.

Before the event:

  • Stock up on Star Pieces
  • Complete PvP sets for Stardust (and Rare Candy) rewards
  • Catch weather-boosted Pokémon, but don’t forget to transfer them before the event starts

Having a large Stardust reserve allows you to immediately invest in top-tier Pokémon obtained during the event.

Coordinate for GO Fest Preparation

Pokémon GO Road of Legends is specifically designed as a lead-in event for Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Global. The bonuses continue through GO Fest weekend, making this the perfect opportunity to finalize your roster.

Use this week to:

  • Secure missing legendary Pokémon in your PokéDex.
  • Farm XL Candy.
  • Build raid teams.
  • Acquire Mega Energy.
  • Improve friendship levels.
  • Prepare for Mega Mewtwo (X and Y) and other GO Fest challenges.

Additionally, Trainers can use an Elite TM to get Spacial Rend for Origin Forme Palkia. You can also an Elite TM to get Roar of Time for Origin Forme Dialga. If you get a good one or you already have a good one, don’t forget to teach them these exclusive moves.
