You can now increase your mega-evolved Pokémon level faster. This is in addition to the previous updates to the Mega Evolution system in Pokémon GO. With this update, you can spend extra Mega Energy to increase your Pokémon’s level rather than waiting for the cooldown before you can increase your interaction by one day.
How it was in the past
Usually, it takes 30 days to reach Mega Level 3 (Max Level) for a Pokémon that can be mega-evolved. Furthermore, you can only increase a Pokémon’s Mega Level once per day. Therefore, you need 30 separate days to get your mega Pokémon to its Max Mega Level.
Additionally, the 30 days will require that you use Mega Energy every day. If you have enough Mega Energy for that Pokémon, you can do this. If not, you will need to wait for the cooldown period to be able to Mega-evolve with Mega Energy.
After the first mega evolution, a Level 1 Mega (Base Level) Pokémon needs 7 days of rest (cooldown period); Level 2 (High Level) needs 5 days of rest; Level 3 (Max Level) needs 3 days of rest; and Level 4 (Super Max) needs 1 day of rest.
Therefore, waiting to increase the Mega Level of a Pokémon without using Mega Energy will take you a total of 160 different days to get a Max Level Mega Pokémon.
Please note that you will need 5000 Mega Energy to take a Max Level (level 3) Mega Pokémon to its Super Max Level (level 4) Mega Pokémon. You can search for your Max Level Mega Pokémon by using mega3 as the search word.
In summary, if you have about 8000 Mega Energy for a Pokémon that you want to take from the first mega evolution to super max level (mega level 4). You are good to go. You can achieve this in 30 days (for Pokémon that can be Super Mega-evolved).
Increase your Mega-Evolved Pokémon
And now?
You can take your new Mega Pokémon to its Max Level (level 3) instantly if you have the required Mega Energy. You can do this for each level before level 3.
This means you can instantly take your Mega level 1 Pokémon to Mega level 2 and from Mega level 2 to Mega level 3.
You can see this option when you open the detail page of the Pokémon that can mega-evolve. Here are the steps.
- Type mega1 into the search bar to see all the Pokémon you have done a first evolution for
- Click on any.
- On the next page, click on the Mega Pokémon symbol that normally takes you to a Mega Pokémon’s detail page
- Here you will see the “Level Up” button that you can use to increase your Mega Pokémon’s level instantly.
You can choose to continue the normal process.
How Much Mega Energy is required for the instant Mega Level Increase?
The amount of Mega Energy required depends on the level of the Pokémon you want to increase its level instantly. Additionally, it also depends on the amount of Mega Energy you used during the first time evolution of that Pokémon.
I could give you some numbers, but they may not be what you need exactly. Therefore, it is best that you check your Mega Pokémon’s detail page to see the exact Mega Energy you need to increase its level instantly.
Options?
If you do not have enough Mega Energy for that Pokémon, you can still increase its level by using the previous system (explained earlier). You can choose to use a small amount of Mega Energy every day or wait for its cooldown to use Zero Mega Energy.
This option is the best if you are not in a rush to have your mega Pokémon reach its max level. Additionally, this option requires about 2x less Mega Energy to get your Mega Pokémon to its max level. It may, however, take a longer time.

As previously announced, Charizard’s Mega Energy has now been split. You will need to use Mega Energy to Mega Evolve Charizard into either Mega Charizard X or Mega Charizard Y.
