Shadow Zekrom in Pokémon GO (2026)

The introduction of Shadow Zekrom into Pokémon GO via the October 2026 Team GO Rocket Taken Over event marks a seismic shift in the game’s PvE meta. As the legendary Deep Black Pokémon, Zekrom already commanded respect as a top-tier Dragon- and Electric-type attacker. Amplifying its baseline stats with the signature Shadow bonus transforms it into an absolute offensive attacker.

To add Shadow Zekrom to your collection, trainers must track down and defeat Team GO Rocket Boss Giovanni during a Team GO Rocket Takeover event using a Super Rocket Radar. Because these Radars are rare resource items, evaluating its stat investment ahead of time is vital.

Shadow Zekrom Combat Power and Stat Distribution

Shadow Zekrom boasts a staggering maximum Combat Power reaching 4,565 CP at Level 50. Its core stats consist of:

  • Attack: 275
  • Defense: 211
  • HP: 205

While its baseline stats are identical to its regular counterpart, the 20% damage boost inherent to Shadow Pokémon elevates its offensive output. This comes at the standard cost of a 16.7% defense reduction, leaning it further into a glass-cannon archetype. However, because its defensive stats are comfortably robust to begin with, Shadow Zekrom handles raid pressure much better.

Shadow Zekrom PvE Performance: The Electric Crown Contender

In Raid Battles and Gym Defense/Offense, Shadow Zekrom shines brightest as an Electric-type attacker, where it vies for the non-Mega crown.

  • Best Moveset: Dragon Breath paired with Fusion Bolt yields an astonishing damage-per-second (DPS) profile. If you missed out on Fusion Bolt during its initial distribution and lack an Elite Charged TM, Wild Charge serves as a devastating alternative, though its 100% self-debuff requires careful timing.

  • Typing Advantages: Its unique Dragon and Electric typing gives it a defining edge over traditional Electric types. Zekrom’s resistances to Water, Grass, Electric, Flying, Steel, and Fire make it exceptionally versatile. Its resistance to Water-type attacks is particularly useful against Water raid bosses, though trainers must watch out for secondary Ice-type coverage moves.

  • As a Dragon Attacker: While it functions brilliantly with Dragon Breath and Outrage, the Dragon-type category faces fierce competition from monsters like Rayquaza, Shadow Salamence, and Mega Garchomp. Even so, it easily sits comfortably in upper-tier dragon rotations.

PvP Utility: Master League Viability

In the Master League, Shadow Zekrom functions as a high-risk, high-reward closer or lead.

  • Pros: Its fast move pressure with Dragon Breath slices through generic threats, and its ability to threaten shields with heavy-hitting charged moves like Fusion Bolt or Crunch (which offers a 20% chance to drop the opponent’s defense) makes it terrifying if left unchecked.

  • Cons: The Master League meta features heavy Ground-type presence (such as Zygarde, Groudon, and Landorus) and Fairy types (like Togekiss and Zacian). Because Shadow Zekrom takes super-effective damage from Ground, Dragon, Fairy, and Ice, alignment and shield management are critical. Mismanaging shields can cause it to collapse rapidly under sustained fast-move pressure.

Quick Overview: Shadow Zekrom

  • Primary Role: Top-tier Electric-type PvE Raid Attacker
  • Fast Move: Dragon Breath
  • Charged Moves: Fusion Bolt* (Elite TM required if missed) / Wild Charge / Outrage
  • Weather Boost: Windy and Rainy
  • Is it worth the Stardust? Yes, it is an absolute priority for elite raid rosters.

Investment Recommendation: Purify or Keep as Shadow Zekrom?

For the vast majority of competitive players, do not purify Shadow Zekrom.

Regular Zekrom is frequently featured in 5-star raid rotations and is much easier to farm for high IV floors or shiny variants. Shadow Zekrom, conversely, is heavily bottlenecked by limited Super Rocket Radars and rare Candy XL requirements. The 20% damage multiplier drastically outclasses any minor stat gains you would get from bringing a regular Zekrom to a hundo (100% IV).

If you managed to acquire one from Giovanni, prioritize removing Frustration during Rocket Takeover events, pump your Stardust into it, and enjoy owning one of the most powerful offensive assets in Pokémon GO history.
