Mega Raichu X and Y are set to debut in Pokémon GO. Discover and learn how to beat Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y with the best counters, raid tips, shiny information, and Mega Evolution details.
Mega Raichu will be available in Super Mega Raids on July 18, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. Trainers can engage in the Super Mega Raids to get a Raichu as an encounter, Raichu Mega Energy, and other rewards for completing each Super Mega Raid. If you are lucky, you may encounter a Shiny Raichu.
Mega Raichu X and Y
Mega Raichu X and Y are Electric-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO. They are extremely weak to Pokémon with Ground-type attacks. Their best attacks are Thunder Shock as a Fast Attack and Wild Charge as a Charged Attack.
Both have different stats. Mega Raichu X’s maximum Combat Power is 3969 CP, while that of Mega Raichu Y is 4271 CP. This is because Y has more attack-weighted stats. X is more defense-weighted. Both have the same HP stats at their maximum CP.
Furthermore, they can both learn the following attacks.
- Fast Attack
- Spark, an Electric-type attack
- Volt Switch, an Electric-type attack
- Charm, a Fairy-type attack
- Charged Attack
- Thunder Punch, an Electric-type attack
- Thunder, an Electric-type attack
- Brick Break, a Fighting-type attack
- Trailblaze, a Grass-type attack
- Skull Bash, a Normal-type attack
- Surf, a Water-type attack
Due to these, using Ground-type attackers is the best way to win more Mega Raichu X and Y raids.
Please note that they resist Pokémon with Electric-, Flying-, Poison-, and Steel-type attacks. Avoid using Pokémon of these types and with these attack types.
Mega Raichu X and Y’s Best Counters
These are as follows.
- Mega Garchomp with Mud Shot as a Fast Attack and Earth Power as a Charged Attack.
- Shadow Groudon with Mud Shot as a Fast Attack and Precipice Blades as a Charged Attack.
- Groudon with Mud Shot as a Fast Attack and Precipice Blades as a Charged Attack.
- Shadow Garchomp with Mud Shot as a Fast Attack and Earth Power as a Charged Attack.
- Landorus (Therian) with Mud Shot as a Fast Attack and Sandsear Storm as a Charged Attack.
- Shadow Excadrill with Mud-Slap as a Fast Attack and Scorching Sands as a Charged Attack.
- Shadow Mamoswine with Mud-Slap as a Fast Attack and High Horsepower as a Charged Attack.
- Shadow Landorus (Incarnate) with Mud Shot as a Fast Attack and Earth Power as a Charged Attack.
- Shadow Rhyperior with Mud-Slap as a Fast Attack and Drill Run as a Charged Attack.
You can save any of these as your 6-team battle party and use them during the Super Mega Raid Day. Ensure you have these powered up to at least their level 35.
After defeating Mega Raichu, you will get Raichu as an encounter, Mega Energy, and other resources. If you get a Raichu with 1247 CP, that is a hundo. If the in-game weather is Rain, the hundo is with 1558 CP.
The boosted shiny odds are 1 in 20. If you get a Shiny Raichu with either of these CP, you’ve gotten a Shundo.
Super Mega Raid Day Details
Mega Raichu will be the featured Pokémon during the Super Mega Raid Day on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time.
At the start of the event, Trainers will have access to the following bonuses and Timed Research.
- Increase in Remote Raid Pass to 20 from Friday, July 17, at 5:00 p.m. to Saturday, June 18, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. PDT.
- Up to six free Raid Passes from spinning Gym Photo Discs.
- Raichu caught from Super Mega Raids will have Mega Level 1 unlocked.
- Increased chance of encountering Shiny Raichu from Super Mega Raids.
- Complete Timed Research tasks to earn a Premium Battle Pass and an encounter with Steelix.
If you purchase the event ticket for US$4.99 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you will be granted the following bonuses.
- Up to 14 Raid Passes from spinning Gym Photo Discs.
- Increased chance to get Rare Candy XL from Raid Battles.
- An additional 5,000 XP from each Super Mega Raid Battle.
- An additional 5,000 Stardust from each Super Mega Raid Battle.
The Bonuses and Research will expire on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. local time.
Top 10 Super Mega Raids Tips
Doing the following will help you make the best out of the Super Mega Raid Day. Success depends not only on having the best counters. Coordination is very important.
- Make sure every Trainer uses a Mega Pokémon in the raid. You need at least 8 Mega Pokémon in the raid.
- Don’t use Primal Groudon (or Primal Kyogre) since they cannot be used to break shields during a Super Mega Raid.
- Each Trainer can only break one shield. You cannot win if the shields are not broken.
- Aim for a larger lobby than the minimum of 8 Trainers.
- Put your Mega Pokémon in the last slot of your battle team.
- Use your Mega Pokémon’s charged attack only when the raid boss starts using shields.
- If your Mega Pokémon faints before breaking the shield, go into the raid lobby, revive your Mega Pokémon, and then re-enter the raid immediately.
- If you are remote raiding, ensure that the minimum number of Mega Pokémon in the raid is 8 and that the raid party is at least 10 Trainers.
- Create a saved Battle Party of the six (6) counters you want to use.
- Don’t forget to heal and revive your battle party after each raid.
Where to find Super Mega Raids?
Super Mega Raids require teamwork and may only appear at certain Gyms. You can visit pokemongo.com/map to see the locations where Super Mega Raids might appear during an event.
You can also filter the map to show nearby community meetups days in advance, allowing you to plan more seamlessly. Plus, you’ll be able to view nearby community meetups through the map. You should attend nearby meetups hosted by Community Ambassadors and join other Trainers to help you take on any challenge.

Is Mega Raichu Worth Raiding?
As a raid attacker, Mega Raichu is not expected to become a top-tier attacker. So, it is worth raiding up till the point where you get enough Mega Energy for further Mega Evolution. There are better Electric-type raid attackers in Pokémon GO.
Mega Evolution Details
The first Raichu Mega-evolution will cost you 300 Raichu Mega Energy if you want to Mega-evolve a Raichu you already have before this Super Mega Raid Day. However, you won’t need this if you want to mega-evolve the one you caught from the Super Mega Raid.
Additionally, you will need more Mega Energy to increase its level to a High Level, Max Level, and then Super Max Level. In total, you will need about 10,000 Raichu Mega Energy if you want to instantly increase its Mega level to Super Max Level. If not, you can take is slow and use less Mega Energy. However, increasing its level from Max Level to Super Max Level requires 5,000 Raichu Mega Energy.
Remember, it is not worth the hassle. So, between 1,000 and 2,000 Raichu Mega Energy should be fine.
